Could I please have some honest views on this car. I've only had mine a few days, but I've driven it in the wet and the dry and I just can't help thinking that tales of it's 'widowmaking' tendancies are pub tales. It's a very quick car, and obviously demands respect, but it feels so planted.

Is it luring me into a false sense of security, I'd really be interested in informed views.

Thanks.

I've had mine for 8/9 months now and have only had a couple of worrying moments... once accelerating on a motorway in v wet conditions and the car snapping sideways at naughty speeds in 4th.. however generally it is well behaved and in a straight line at least has phenomenal traction. I've also found it relatively easy to slide around and not managed to lose it yet even on a circuit. The oversteer comes in a controllable manner but you can feel the momentum building at the rear on a circuit in high-speed stuff.

I have driven the car above a number of times and have nearly crashed it on every occasion. I have also spun it at Silverstone at the end of the pit straight (720 I think). It is absolutely brutal. Caution required.

how easy was it to catch? I know it is hard to be definitive but would an experienced road driver / never been on a track type person like me have caught it?

Mine hates being driven slow at anything under 2000 revs, so paranoia overcomes me and I spend an hour being a hooligan, just to make sure it's ok!

Then I spend an hour worrying how much I've just hurt it.

But everytime I park it in the garage, I think to myself, you lucky lucky git!

I nearly lost it overtaking a car on a dual carriageway when I first got it, but now I've learnt to hold onto the steering wheel!

If you've never done any karting/motorsport/trackdays then I would suggest you get the car to a well organised trackday (I've recently used goldtrack a couple of times and would recommend highly) and find out how it reacts on the limit safely before it hapens on the road and becomes expensive.....

Thanks for the opinions guys. Interesting point about holding onto the steering wheel! The only issue I've had with the car was under hard braking whilst on my mobile phone. Not something I'll do again.

I've done the above mentioned carts/trackdays/etc, but I'm not Mario Andretti. I'm just pleasantly surprised at what an accomplished package the car is. I've heard so much nonsense spouted about the car, including the previous owner suggesting it's not suitable for B-roads! As far as I can tell it's an extreme 911, which means if it wants to jump a few feet off course let it, then gently persuade it back on track. I love it. I can't believe I swapped an 'average' 997 for this animal, many thanks Phillip Woolley.

JWB, what did you do to get yours to 650bhp, and will I need a 2nd mortgage?

John,

If someone was prepared to stump up the £125k for your RS, would you really let it go?

I know you're after a Carrera GT, but surely the GT2RS is as quick?
