Just getting the car put back together after variocam failing. The garage (independent specialist) are charging 1700 quid + vat. The warranty company have offered 950 + vat listing various excuses liek we dont pay for oils, antifreeze , and they only pay 32 pounds an hour labour (LOL). In the unlikely event of the warranty company coming over all generous what recourse do i have with the independant dealer i bought the car from? I got the car on the 7th april this year. Is there a 90 day limit to there obligation to me?

I have phoned the dealer and said phone up the warranty company and see if you can get more. I am then gonna suggest they make a contribution like half the difference.

Does this sound reasonable or shoudl i be persuing the dealer for ALL the difference cost.

TIA

Given that you have only had it two months I would have thought that the dealer should be stumping up the full difference and it should cost you a penny.

Not sure of there is a mandatory 90 day warranty provided by the dealer, but seems to ring a bell.

Of course your consumer rights still come into play, must be of satisfactory quality, last a reasonable amount of time etc.

Have a look here and do some googling.

ok thanks for that ... i would expect the dealer to say sod off or maybe offer half. I shall give them a chance to talk to the warranty company and then talk some more ...

Tell them to put the old oil and antifreeze back in, the silly silly devils.

Why should you pay and who is to say that you have not just had the oil and antifreeze changed !....

Having said that if it was ready anyway... no harm done, get them to change the filters and you have a full service as well.

I would be interested to know what damage occurred and what needed changing - as the costs anyway seem very high.

i guess ill see when i get the bill ... there was a lot of diagnostic work involved with a misfire on the other bank. I dont for one minute think the garage are being dodgy as they have been nothing but superbly helpful dealing with the warranty company.

If it was just a missfire and needed a new variocam solenoid then the charge is much too high - its a simple job to diagnose and fix as the Porsche diagnostic tester can tell if the circuit is broken and it also enables you to isolate each solenoid in turn and you can tell from a change or not in engine note and tickover revs- - if it is working or not - but if the warranty is paying for it - I suppose its a result anyway!

trust me the misfire has been anything but easy to spot. Im told the diagnostics on the 99 reg car arent as good as later models. But everythings been changed over in the car to find the misfire before the variocam was done as a see if that solves it measure as it was definately broken but on the other bank.

AS far as the misfire goes, plugs , leads, mafs, induction system have all been tested. INcluding numerous leak down tests on the engine. So frankly if it aint working after the new variocam (which im not sure it will) it kinda points to the ECU ... and i dont even wanna start thinkign about buying one of those bad boys!

Any thoughts on the above although its slight thread drift welcome

Yes and the cheque is in the post as well!

Actually I inspected his variocam unit FOC, wrote a letter to support his case against the warranty company to tell them what we found - FOC - and now needed to do another one because they are being so unreasonable - again FOC - but I needed his address again and the fax came through with a black line right accross his address. He is also not my customer and I have never met him nor earned a penny out of him.

Oh ye of little faith!

Now if you come and fix my fax machine for me i will be overawed

Seriously its nice to find there are some ppl out there who put time into helping others, as Baz says FOC and im unlikely (unless london floods) to be his customer in the nr future...

I would now like to nominate any of the hartech threads for thread of the year as they always seem to actually be useful

Thanks again baz
