Ordered Goodyear tires for the CanAm, but they never arrived on time, nor did the supplier have any idea when they would. Changed the order to Pirelli P Zeros since they could be delivered and are reported to be better in the wet. Was then told that the Asimmetricos are not being made anymore, and will be replaced by the Rosso's.
The tires arrived, 2 rear Asimmetricos, and 2 front Rosso's. Two different tread designs. No idea when the rear Rosso's might arrive.
I won't need the tires for about a month, so can wait. Has anybody had any experience with these tires? I've heard they grip well, but don't wear well.
I'm even thinking about going with the mixed set if I have to.
Thanks
Jack

Once they are warm they are fantastic.

Grip from cold is terrible

Also I have found them next to useless in the wet - although that could be the excess of power

Ted said he preffered the Goodyear over the P-zero when I spoke to him about tyres.

Edited to add ...... in the wet that was, more progessive.

Surely the Pirelli P Zero to have now is the Corsa, designed as a road legal track tyre.

Will beat anything in the dry !!

I spoke to the Pirelli and Porsche dudes who saw Sumpter drive a 911 GT3 on these tyres in the wet and lap everyone !! So they might go well in the wet !!

Why not get them from the factory? every time I go there they seem to have them in stock!

My only experience of Pirelli was on an XR3i and they only lasted 6000miles. Could have been down to my driving style at the time though (17yrs old).

However as you can get them for £250 a piece at the rear it may be economical if they are good in the dry.

Checked this out, but they don't make the right sizes for the Ultima. However, Hoosier Tire does, which I do plan to mount on an extra set of wheels for the track.
The Hoosiers would not last too long on the street because of their thin construction.

I am aware of the Hoosier but it is not road legal in Europe, the Corsa sizes are now exact but they will fit !!

We have rosso rears and old style assymeticos on the front. At the time pirrelli weren't making the fronts in the Rosso style. I spoke at length with the head of the Pirelli technical department UK. The rosso is the replacement for the old style assymetico (which will be phased out). The rosso has a different tread and compound to the old tyre and is supposed to generate 4% more lateral grip than the old tyre. He said because I was running different width typres front to back I could safely mix tyre compunds front to back.

When I discussed this with Ted last year he said the reason he moved away from Pirelli was due to supply problems and the fact they were not going to make the Rosso fronts in the correct size for an Ultima. He had moved to Goodyear becase they were easier to get hold of and a softer compound.

I don't know which is a better tyre but last year I could get the Pirelli's alot cheaper than the goodyears and that influenced my decicion more than anything. I have done about 3000 miles on the Pirellis (no track days) and they are about half worn (especially rears (just don't tell Dr. J!).

Thanks for the input Oliver.
The strange thing is that what my supplier received were new Rosso's in the correct size for the front, and old Asimmetricos for the rear, with no idea when the new rear Rosso's would arrive.
I also feel that there should not be a problem if I have to mix them.

I waited for 2 months to get a full set of assymetircos..the front is 245/35. Goodyear is now selling the gs1 here in the states..not the right size however. I'm not sure what other cars use this size tire, hopefully something or the chances of getting the correct size tire here is low.

If the supply remains this tight we'll have to import tires in bulk from the UK.
