Lake District Infrareds....
Discussion
I can't remember who it was but just before I went to the Lakes someone posted some IR pic's of Cambridge. That inspired me to get a Cokin filter to have a play with and these shots from Derwent Water are my first ones. Although I bracketed like mad to get a reasonable exposure I think I need to adjust the focussing a bit next time.....?

is IR photography purely guesswork? how many stops difference is it between with and without the filter?
Can depend upon how sensitive your sensor is (bearing in mind they have an IR filter placed in front of them!) I think with the filter I have and the D70 sensor we're usually talking 5-7 stops. As for focussing - has the lens got a mark (red dot or similar) for where IR focuses to as opposed to visible light? Best to manual focus and stop down a bit if possible!
Greg, Can you please stop posting pic's on this forum..... Not only have you encouraged me to go and buy the IR filter, but now I NEED to get a suction mount for the car after seeing your shot earlier in the week
For comparison, here is the same shot as the above but without the IR filter in place.......
I preferred the IR one cos of the softening effect on the water, but I suppose that could be as a result of the longer shutter speed.
