I'm looking at designing my own website for a new business venture. I want the website to look top notch and proffesional, what software should i use ?
Thanks !
Thanks !
Without wanting to be short, if you dont know, there is very littly chance it will look either regardless of package..
It's about the skill and knowledge of the designer.
99% of home made websites look homemade.
A small, sexy website will only set you back a few hundred.. if it's for a business, is it worth losing potential business by skimping on a website.. which is, afterall, your online persona!
click the banner at the top for hosting tho
I've a great designer I could lend you for a few hundred quid for a small site
J
oh and second jamie's comments...think of all the time you will spend trying to get it right, absolutely hours! You could either invest the cash in a course and learn how to do it properley, making yourself more employable in the process....or spend the cash on getting someone who knows what they are doing to do it in a fraction of the time...

Don't know JamieBeeston, but he got the right answer first time, so it's his.
Seriously, get it done for you by people who can do it straight away and know what works. You'll use up more of your own time that it's worth.

I'm prepared to pay, this would be a recruitment site which will allow users to upload there CV, log in etc. anyone know any decent companies?
Depends on what your budget / requirements are.
Check out www.Register1.net
if you like the design, and have £500-£1k for a small simple site, then drop me a bell via profile.
If you dont like it
or dont want to spend that much, I am sure others will come along. J

Anyone else help me ?
Thanks so far !
I've been making sites since 1997 and have never managed to come up with anything I'm remotely happy in from a "professional" look and feel, they are usually pretty good from a coding point of view, just look crap. It's a very hard thing to be able to do properly. Thanks so far !
I would strongly urge you to budget in a not insignificant amount of money for the site - every company is expected to have a website nowadays - can you afford yours to be bad?
Oh, and as an example. I know of a company who spent nigh on £4000 for a very simple website, around 20 pages, all static with a simple upload feature. It looks terrible as well to be honest and I didn't do that one

Agree with the post above - if you're asking that question, and the venture means anything to you - pay someone. Drop me a line if you want all the reasons why, but basically you've got to consider:
* Browser compatibility
* Accessibility (if you care/don't want the legal liability)
* Brand
* Search engine optimisation
* Future direction (functionality adding to the site, maintenance, etc)
Then there's everything that sits around it (if it's core to your business) - sales campaigns, customer loyalty/retention, and so on.
If it's really just a page of contact details to make sure you HAVE a Web presence, but it's not core to your business, fair enough. If it's anything more, it's a great opportunity to drive sales (assuming you're selling something!) if tackled properly.
Hope that helps! (And drop me a line if you want any more detail - I can probably help out here
