An interesting point appears in another thread which I hope you don't mind me bringing out seperately here. I am looking for an S3 but do not have a garage and will have to keep it on a private drive. Has anyone experienced problems with getting insurance for this, does it push the premium up a lot and can anyone recommend a company to talk to?

Shnozz doesn't garage his car... and it's an everyday motor for him too... might be worth a chat to him (or drop him an e-amil)... bear in mind, he's under 25, so his premium is high-ish.

Otherwise try Mannings... 01491 578759 - oh, and you need to be a TVRCC member...

Think it rather depends on your postcode.

Don't remember what the difference was on mine garaged/non garaged, but I got the best deal through (of all people) Tesco!

Cheers

I insure mine through manning and it sits on the drive when not being used. The mileage is not limited in any way and I commute in it too. I think the premium is £550. I'm not sure if that helps you any as I don't know what it would cost if I garaged it. I'm 34 by the way and live in berkshire.

Mikeo,

Try Mannings first but if you get no luck with them (They wouldn't insure me as i hadn't had a sports car before) try direct line, them seemed a lot better than many of the other insurance companies and give you a discount if you have other policies with them but at the end of the day just shop around most of these insurance companies are on the web or have freephone numbers.

I would agree with rustoni - I tried Mannings and was told to come back a year later as I had not had a sports car before. Direct Line then proved to be the best bet - £1200 is expensive but my wife is just under 25 (I'm just over) and it is not garaged.

Hoping it will come down a lot this year !

Try Firebond and ask for a classic policy. My M is insured with them and its ungaraged and used every day. They came in at under 400 quid this year but Mannings wouldn't even quote.

Try Sunninghill Brokers, Basingstoke. They advertise in Sprint. They insured my S2 when Mannings wouldn't look at me for a very reasonable £280 or so, unlimited mileage, fully comp. You'll find more details on at least one earlier thread here. Course I am a nearly wrinkly... Daft thing is behind the brokers lies the same insurance company, Norwich Union, so why some say yes and some say know is what? Commissions perhaps?

24 last year, live in London with car on the street, Direct line £1,200 unlimited mileage. Most of the premium is London and age, didn't seem to bothered about where I kept the car.

Mannings wanted me to prove I'd had a sports car before, but while talking through that said they would not cover me anyway as the car is not garaged. Its off the street, not visible unless you get through a locked gate, is well alarmed and immobilised, but no joy. I am in the club too..

Peart and Sunninghill both gave me good quotes - about 650 unlimited mileage with class 1 business use, 33, full no claims, clean license, live in the centre of Sheffield.

Next best I think was of the order of 1200 so I was quite happy..

Manning would not insure my car in London (no garage), they were only interested if I had a GPS Tracker system (not cheap!). Try Sunninghill they offered the best quote.

Varies a lot as some companies are better for different age groups. Tesco will do my upcoming S2 for just over £400. On driveway, 12K per year, protected NCB, £250 excess, etc. I'm 41. Add another £96 to that for MrsF, she's 35. Only stipulation was that it must have an alarmimmobiliser. Next best were Direct Line and CIS.

As an old git (37) with an S3 I found a broker called Carole Nash very competitive - agreed value, 4,000 limited miles and includes recovery within the UK for just over 200 notes. Oh, and it's kept on the drive. This is either a good deal or maybe I when I make a claim..........

Anyway - worth a call - the ins co. is AXA btw:

Good Luck!

When I moved my Celica out of the garage to make way for the TVR, my insurance went up by around £100, for a £800pa policy.

I would guess that being a soft-top and oh so easy to break into, the S would take even more of a hit if left outside.

Try ClassicLine (number in Sprint) for a good quote, they are however severely limited on mileage, and take no account of NCB, and hence do not acculate it either fine for a 3rd/4th car, but not when you're trying to get a set of cars for full NCBs ready for future toys!

However, Mannings did consider the Celica o be a sports car, even though I gave up on that notion long ago...
