Griff/Chim washers - should there be a non-return valve?

Have just fitted some of the new Leven wiper/washers, which not only look good but put the water on the screen not all over the occupants when driving top-down (nice to be able to wash screen without then needing to clean my glasses!). Also seem to follow the screen shape better, so less missed portions.

BUT (and sure this is nothing to do with the Leven mod) I find that when pulling the stalk for wash/wipe it takes several seconds for the water to issue from the nozzle. By this time the dry wipers have spread the flys nicely! If used repeatedly the water is pretty instantaneous, but if I then need the washers after 10-15 mins, the waiting for water scenario repeats itself.

I suspect the water in the washer tubing is draining back to the reservior? Is there a non-return valve in the system (either separate or within the electric pump)? If so is it "serviceable" or a case of replacement?

Any advice welcomed (as we are well into the fly season now).

yep, there should be one, usually just in the pipe coming from the washer bottle.
They are available from motor factors.....

This is what I get for posting before looking - having looked under the bonnet last night I find the NRV is quite clear to see, and what's even more unusual, it is accessible too!

Will ring around the local car part shops and see if anyone's got one in stock.

Update 1800hrs - got one for the princely sum of 79p; must be the cheapest replacement part I have ever bought for a TVR. Off into the garage to fit it now.........
