Having the Wortec catback system + re-map fited to my VXR six on Tuesday. It was originally only going in for an oil and filter change and the anti explody airbag thingy, but you know how it is! Point is, I can't decide whether to go for straight through or fit the supplied center boxes. I want it to sound purposeful but not like a top fueler! Is there a big difference? I know they can be,(reasonably) easily swapped around, but it would still involve a trip to the dealer and a fitting fee. Just how loud is it going straight through/muffled? I'd appreciate your input guys as I'd like to get it right first time. I'm in the Bournemouth/Southampton area if there's anyone in the vicinity to give me a demo this weekend?

Hi Skyblue, unless you plan on making many long trips I would not bother with the centre boxes. We borrowed an 05 cv8 from Greens with the centre boxes removed while our old 04 cv8 was getting fixed - awesome sound but it drones like a bugger in 6th gear just around cruising speed of 70-80mph. We live right next to Wimborne which is close to you, we have sold our 04 now but hopefully we will have a 6.0l car soon! There is some sort of meet going on at Poole Quay I think on the 1st and 2nd of July, would be good to see you there

Go Straight Through to start with....

If it get's too much, it's a half-hour (DIY) job (apparantly)...

When you get the system fitted, also ask them to "pad out" the courtesy light as this resonates right at the cruising sweet spot (2,000 RPM) and it's really annoying.

I've since had the headers fitted and, i know this seems wiered, but the drone dissappears...or maybe I've just gone deaf now.... PARDON!!

No you're not imagining it BO55, the headers do reduce droning.

Mine seems loudest when starting from cold then eases off as it warms up. I don't get any droning either and my centre boxes are in the garage, strange?

I have been straight through for nearly 3 years but have finally toned it down with a Wortec 3 box affair, + & -'s for each but very happy in stealth mode

I started off with straight throughs... but got fed up with ...

a. Droning at cruise speeds
b. Massive noise on retard, then dip the clutch... silent. Felt a fraud.
c. Getting saluted by neon Citroen Saxo boys when driving past PC World car park.

The centre boxes are OK. Not as loud, but still angry enough to tell people you have a serious car.

Go loud and proud from the start, you will enjoy it. I thought i might find it to loud for the neighbours being a shift worker on earlies and in late at night but all is fine, even told me it is the best early call when I am on earlies. The extra boxes are slowly getting buried in the shed soon to disapear all together.
