Just about to renew the insurance
Discussion
Phoned Carole Nash who I've been with before. They quoted me 360 quid (CBR1000RR f/c in Norfolk) but then I remembered my SP30 I got a few weeks ago. Now it's 400 quid.
I didn't know the insurance companies were profiteering too of the old speeding gravy train.
Are there any companies that don't fleece you for no increase in risk I can use?

Whats the excess? Have you tried Bennets or other bike insurers (who I can't remember the name of now!)?
Also, have you tried looking for a specialist insurer? When I was looking for insurance, Piaggio Plus (who are specialists for Gilera/Piaggio) were the best by far, and they are underwritten by Lexham - very efficient and helpful when i've had to change things or ask questions
Have a look at www.lexhaminsurance.co.uk/

For a CBR1000RR i would definately give HONDA Insurance a call. I am with them and yes it went up allot when i changed the bike 1/2 way through the policy because they effectively act as a broker and i had to stay with the same insurance company but they will bend over backwards to get you business and it is good cover too. Got to be worth a vist online www.honda.co.uk/insurance/ or call 0870 078 0101.

Honda looked good at like 276 quid before I added the SP30 then it jumped to £324.
Am I the only one incensed that insurance companies are profiteering out of drivers with no accident history yet a minor speeding indescretion?
Don't forget official figures confirm that the list of safest drivers and the list of SP30 owners overlap hugely, so this is not about increased risk...

Hi - you could search 10 companies at once via www.thebikeinsurer.co.uk along the same lines as confused.com for car insurance.
As regards SP30's on car insurance they do need to bw disclosed and if you have more than one a considerable premium loading can apply.Hastings loaded my car premium by over 60% for 2 SP30's !

try H&R insurance. They have always been very good for me since I passed my test. when I get my renewal through jsut get some other quotes and they always match it. Last time they cancelled a 3% credit card fee due to it then came above the other best quote.
First time they have tried to charge a credit card fee!

Also check that you can change your bike half way through your policy.I renewed mine in april but are now changing the bike thinking I would just pay extra on the premium ,but they just said that my policy package wouldn't cover a more expensive bike ( above 5000) so I would have to cancel my present policy with no refund and start afresh with a new policy , so i will have paid for insurance twice this year.
Changed bikes from a Aprilia RSV R to a BMW R1200 GS (I know, I know) and Carole Nash were over £100 more expensive than Bennets or e-bike. I called them up to give them the opportunity of re-quoting (or cutting their commission) but they still could not get close. They were competitive for the RSV though and I used them for the past six years. Shame to move on but we are talking about a difference of over 30% and I could not ignore that!
I just contacted my insurance to change the policy over to a different bike and they now charge 42 quid to cover the change over plus whatever the new premium will be for the rest of the year, so I asked what if I cancel and change companies and they said that would cost me 35 quid !
Is this normal practice with other companies - to charge for changes such as these.
