Presumably it's not a new Boxter then, cos i can't believe they are still fitting cassette players.

Although when I bought my 10-year old 993 it did make me wonder what the dealers think about when they supply new cars. The car had an original radio with cd player fitted (ie no cassett player) from new. Yet it also had a bloody great cassette holder (holds 5 tapes, which spring up when you press a button) in the centre console.

The original buyer must have been delighted when he parted with his £60k for a prestige car, paying extra for a (then) state of the are compact disc player only to find that they couldn't be bothered to consider removing the cassette holder.

Hi Scruffy

Just picked up my Boxster yesterday (1997 2.5) and I'm loving it! I'm pretty sure you will too.

Mine was fortunate enough to have a Porsche cd player and amp fitted to it. It sounds pretty good and I must say a like the low key appearance of it compared the stuff you get from Halfords. It's only limitation is that it doesn't have any kind of ipod socket.

Is it not worth a look in ebay for Porsche stereos it wouldn't surprise me if people aren't upgrading them for the latest MP3 playing ipod compatible DAB gear.
It would keep the interior looking consistent too.

If you have a portable MP3 or CD player an even cheaper option would be to buy one of those little FM transmitters that plug into the cigar ligher and your portable player and transmit on a short rannge FM waveband. All you have to do it tune your radio to in.

I've spoken to a couple of people who use them an they say the sound is pretty good. I think they cost about 30 quid.

Alternatively I think you can still get those little cassettes that plug into your portable player and into the car cassette deck and transfer the sound that way.

Where abouts in Manny are you BTW? I'm just outside of Rochdale.

Bob.

EDIT: There's one on ebay...

I am in Northenden,I picked up the car today, its a 3.2s 2000 modeli must say its quite nippy.I tried the cassette/tampon solution today and it worked for a bit then this awful alarm noise came through the speakers so i stopped.I bought a mps/cd/i pod player from halfords last month for my old carrera which was good but sold it with the car, however tonight i found a lead above the pare wheel and this looks promising .I think it may be where a multichanger would sit

Good point about the lead. I suspect a multichanger should plug straight in.

I wonder if you can get MP3 CD multichangers that are compatible.
