Advice for newcomer

I'm completely new to Porsche. I'm looking at buying a Y reg 911 C4. I have found a place that can sell me one - the car looked a little 'used' - had some odd silver paint spray on the underside of the side skirt, a missing litronic headlight water jet and rusted wheel nuts. However this garage assures me that they will take the car to a Porsche garage, submit it to Porsche's 211 point check and then supply it with a year's Porsche Warranty.
My question is - this car has had 6 owners - is the Porsche Warranty enough to give me piece of mind?
Any other advice?

Agree, I'd walk away. There's enough mint cars out there to ignore the ones that aren't. Some people still think mine is new!
The paint underneath the bonnet should be dull. Look at the rear wheel arches carefully, often 911 accidents start here.
Wheel nuts are often 'rusty'.
Don't worry about the number of the owners, a change of number plate adds a new owner.

Often peruse the dealers to get an idea of current prices, and the warranty part gave it away.
Lots of info on the company in question if you do a search of the forums. Quite a few people on here have bought a car off them, so could give opinions. They were recommended to me when I was looking.

6 owners = 911's are usually bought as toys, so every year (or 6 months if you have a bit of spare cash) a new owner, also as stated a private plate adds another owner (mines had a few plates including one that was used to secure a loan for 75 grand alledgedly) nothing untoward there i dont think.

It seems having the Porsche Warranty is the way to go - thanks for your help, it's been very interesting reading on this forum. I'm sure any little things such a missing tubes for the washer jet would be fixed / flagged by Porsche and browsing through these forums my confidence in the dealer in question has been raised considerably.
The only thing that baffles me is how rubbish the interior of such expensive cars is (i.e. 911) - i mean why is the wheel / dash like slab? I know the cars are bought for their engines and pedigree but it really amazed me.

Are you sure about this? I checked with a couple of sources who said that a private plate doesn't increase the amount of owners shown on the V5, Ive never fitted a private plate so have never seen first hand if the owner amount increases.
That's rubbish, sorry, private plate does NOT add owners to a V5. Never has on any of my V5's, nor has it on cars i've bought. So it may happen on rare occasions, but i've never seen it and i've bought a dozen cars which had private plates in their past, and i've moved my own private plate around about 20 times in the last 10 years.

It doesnt increase the amount of owners unless they have filled in the V5 incorrectly.

wow... 30 grand will get you a very nice example... this car sounds a bad buy, and at this price you should run as fast as you can.
If its a C4 in particular your looking for, I've seen a mint example recently... mail me if you want the details.

Well maybe i was being fussy and it's a Y reg so not that old. It seems to me a lot of 911 interiors are just a little bland and don't look like that of a £60k car. I can't email you because i've just joined the forum - please email me the C4 details justinberkovi@hotmail.com
Run away. If a dealer cannot be bothered to properly prep a car for sale, why would they be of any use if you later have a prlem with it?
I recently when to view a cab for the wife at a dealer. The coolant level was below minimum level, there were two oil leaks, bird shit on the back seat, the spare tyre was loose in the front.. this was a 2002 car with only 30k miles on it and it looked like shit. No point a delaer saying "we'll fix all the niggly bits", as all the niggly bits tell me the car isn't worth buying.
There are LOADS of used 996s in the marketplace. Look on the PH classifieds, you'll buy a better looked after car privately and get a warranty on it yourself for less £££.

If you can stretch to £34k there is a 3.4 996 at Prosche Reading in black, manual, looks like a GT3 rear wing and comes fully prepared and warranty included. They may even shift a bit on the price if you ask nicely.
Keep looking, the right car for you is out there.
