Alternator prob. call me thick but.........

Went for a short, steady run to get some petrol. Filled up, paid up, got back in car ( 1999 Griff 500, by the way), turned key......!£*%!?...flat battery. Bump started (yes, I know its a cardinal sin, but I genuinely forgot! - new owner and it forgave me) Keep speed high and revs low, try and make it back; got no chance, had I? Anyway found battery warning light had blown and alternator (well,the regulator bit) uses it to start the charging process, but will start charging again if you give it a blip on the throttle to about 3000rpm (assuming you can get motor running). It's working every time for me, until I can get half the interior out to change the bulb! I bet you lot are all laughing at me, aren't you? Well laugh it up, but just keep an eye on that stupid little red bulb.I threw me. Spankyou very much
