Backfiring Cerbera 4.2

Hi, having almost sorted my Chimeara, my focus is now on my 98 Cerbera 4.2 which refuses to pull cleanly below 3,000rpm (after that it flys up tp the buzzer) I have just removed the cats (as one was breaking up causing unequal back pressure(the problem was there before i put the cat tubes on)) and replaced the old purple plug leads. It still holds back and pops and bangs between 2 & 3,000 rpm (it appears to come from only the left side but i could be mistaken) I have sent it to Silverstone performance and they have tuned it, (still does it) and are now suggesting the cam-timing may be out and want to charge 4-5 hours to do this but are not certain it will cure it.

Any body had a similar problem and how did you fix it??

Has it ever run ok? Below 4000rpm, the O2 sensors are controlling the mixture at tlight loads, and I've had bad running when one of these has gone. Although in these cases the MIL light is on, so I'd guess you'd have noticed that.

TO be honest its always been lumpy below 3000rpm and having not driven any others i put up with it. Now I am trying to sell it and have been told that its not right....no MIL light on though and no obvious fault codes on the diag machine either

hi adam is your car currently for sale at a5 car sales as we are buying a cerb from there that was fully decatted as one of the cats were damaged and it has a misfire as you are putting your foot down just under 3000 revs could you tell us the registration of your car if it is for slae and is it yellow
