S6 Clutch Why TADDS???
Discussion
here lies the remains of my clutch
and a close up of the springs
Had done 10K when this happened back in March
The driven plates are virtually new, springs snapped as shown
what is the problem here.
if you look at the close up of the springs they look work where the thrust bearing contacts.
is a problem with the AP clutch or the way TVR use it?
Could the problem be "fixed" so we dont need new cluches every 10-20K

This may or may not have some relavence, but I've fitted a McLeod multi-plate clutch and hudraulic release to the TVRolet. Obviously not an AP unit, but it looks broadly similar and the same sort of components (pressure plate, diaphram springs, friction plates, driven plates etc) do the same things. Now as part of the install the instructions make it real clear that you must put a stop on the clutch pedal; clearly you have to set the thing up to release, but once it has released you shouldn't allow further travel.
As I recall, this doesn't seem to be checked/controlled with the AP setup TVR use, and I wonder if the diaphram springs are getting needlessly bent too far?

350Matt has looked at a few clutch failures from TVR's and has said the same as TVRolet and has talked to AP who said that a their clutch should not fail in this was unless the pedal was badly adjusted.
Souunds like it's up to the dealer to ensure that the clutch is adjusted so that the bite is near the floor not up at the top or middle of the pedal stroke and hence if someone then pushed the pedal all the way down this frequent motion who over stress the srping and break it.
About time someone took TVR or their dealers to court over this neglect (as there seems to be no manual stop on the housing to prevent this).

Yes you have hit the nail on the head, this is the view of the indies that post on here.
Sound very simular to the problem I had with my clutch, though I never got to see the damage or take any pics,it was sent straight to the factory for inspection & investigation. Still waiting to see if I get an reinburstment.
I lost all gears on my car with no warning about three months ago.
Turn out to be thrust bearing had siezed up and bored its way through the finger followers. The dealer replaced the whole clutch assembly, slave cylinder, thrust bearing etc etc on my car.

My bite point is definitely near the top, so your suggesting i should get this checked / adjusted.
I'm not an expert but why not call your dealer who should at least be an expert. Talk with the service manager and if he sounds like his is talking BS then call another garage.
