P&J was going about an hour before another core plug let go.....Thankfully I was close to home......
The car is due an MOT next month so I might just take it to a local garage and get them to do the work and MOT it...
This core plug is in a
of a place, I will get the garage to change all of them me thinks.....
So the big question is any suggestions on a reputable garage in the Grays (essex) area?
Regards,
Dean

You could do worse than give Leven Technology at Basildon a ring, they are most helpful. Being as you've been on a bit of a bad trot lately it's probably a good idea to let a specialist look at it, they may see other stuff thats about to break. I know it ain't cheap but you will want your car working reliably for the summer. Things will get better, don't give up!

Cheers for the info Fatboy!
I only got an hour out in the sun
before the other core plug let go but WOW, I had forgotten how good the noise was
. The car had behaved brilliantly up to then, the temp never going above 90 and fans kicking in when they should have done.
Anyhow after the first wave of dissapointment I got under the car today to check all the core plugs that I could see they actually seem to be OK. The one that has let go is directly above the exhaust, so I will have to remove the exhaust from the downpipe back.
Oh well tomorrow looks like another day in the garage
!!!

Good to hear it, I'm in the garage as well today doing the last little bits of my suspension re-vamp. A bloke down the road has bought a really loud Tuscan and i hear him all day whilst under my Chim, its a nice sound but really rubs my nose in the fact that mines off the road.
Good luck with the core plug
Good luck with the core plug
just a thought are those plugs looking like they are rotting from inside out,if yes i think i would change my brand of coolant, those things should almost last forever & seldom rot from outside in unless your from the north(lots of salt on the road in the winter),or the coast.just my penny,s worth.A mixture of 50/50 water and quality coolant gives basically no corrosion if changed every two years.Honda dont even list core plugs as a spare part because of this and they dont need to.
Strange thing is that the plugs look rusty and crappy from the outside, but it is mainly at the back of the engine.
The next one along from the one that has just gone has no rust at all, the one above the starter motor looks really ropey but when poked and prodded it feels/sounds fine.
I am currently trying to remove the exhaust, everything has come undone fine but I just cannot seem to get enouugh twist and pull action going. It has taken about an hour to move it one inch. I am knackered and will leave it until tomorrow night, is this a one or two man job?
Have no idea what coolant was used before I got it, but it has been regularly serviced.

Dean,
It is a one man job but i don't know if you have noticed that there is a bolt holding the front of the exhaust to the engine right at the front just above and slightly back from the clamp.

dean maybe your unlucky i dont know,or maybe the c/plugs fitted to the RV8 have inconsistant thickness or plain just not thick enough to resist minor corrosion, ive never changed a core plug on anything ive owned unless the lumps been rebuilt,an ive owned some crates fords galore i can tell you ,but if yours are rottin from outside as well maybe there just shite parts i like this engine maybe its just something we have to live with.sometimes theres something to be said for a bit of oil leakage i mean oil sump replacement due to corrosion was unheard of in the 70s,but now its quite common due to oil tight designs.
