After a full decat, and with the Offords 'cherry bomb' conversion, I think my Chim(p) might be too loud. Talk me out of some reintroduced silencing

no-one's complained yet

Not had a full de cat but do have straight through pipes and it is loud.!! Whilst on most occasions this is great fun it can become a little annoying and am going back to some form of silencing that can be bolted in when the mood takes. Possibly interchangeable tail pipe silencers.

I have only thought the straight through was too loud once when I had to leave very early one morning and had to start the chim up and leave her idling why I scraped the ice off. However it was only a brief thought and as soon as I was driving I was grinning again.

I think mine is loud ..... and then I hit a bit of open road and any idea of a normal exhaust is instantly dismissed

Can't hear it from here, so it's probably OK! Loud is good. The cans on your bike look like that may be a little loud too...

Snorky, I know what you mean, mine didn't appreciate the cans on my bike. However, TVRs were always meant to be loud.

Bar manager at my local has enough time to pour me a guinness and have it settle before I get in to the pub..... Hears me coming from about a mile or so away, and get's pouring!

Too loud? Pah!

No de-cat, but pre-cat-de-cat thanks to ACT manifolds and cherry bombs too. Yeah, wouldn't want to use motorway every day, but I drive to work on back roads, and grin every time. Don't forget the pops and bangs that leave Cerbies envious - oh yeah

Agree I have thoughts sometimes of too loud, but they go away Have to start and go immediately so as not to annoy neighbours too much, but no-one has complained - lady next door said she loved the sound

Now the Termignonis on my Duke - holy sh1t - had to wear ear plugs to stop my ears popping with the V-twin pulses: I could (did) set off shop alarms with those babies!!

Hi 225,
Don't know if you realised but its not good to leave the RV8 idling for too long. It can cause premature wear to the cam and followers.
The followers don't rotate properly at low revs causing uneven wear so i am reliably informed by a well known RV8 engine builder/tuner.

I look at it this way, if I was a neighbour and had to get woken up by something in the morning then I would sure as hell want it to be a V8 burbling away through a stainless pipe.

However I do push it out the garage onto the road every morning...

Jay Dee, when young I had a 3000M whose exhaust broke off. Being young, I couldn't afford one for a week or so. The noise on my 2-3 mile journey was a bit loud to say the least. daren't use it at night 'cos of annoying the neighbours. Then, my local garage put the twin pipes on - sideways (sticking out of the corners)!!!

Worse, the pipes stuck out a lot (as they didn't follow the body curve) and they put 3" bits of crome on the end - did it look stupid!

Stop being a wimp matey.

It sounds awsome. You forgot to add you also have cherry bombs!

Drive and enjoy. Better still, let me drive it and you can follow and get a different perspective. If you can keep up

Can anyone tell me what straight through pipes actually are?
I have had the silencer opened up and the packing removed. Its louder, but it whistles a bit when pushed. I am not sure what to do next. I don't want all of the issues that come with removing the cats. Do I open up the silencer again and have pipes welded in, or cut the silencer box out and weld pipes in??
