4.0ltr Griff Boot release

A couple of questions for owners of early Griffs. My boot release switch is operational all the time and is independent of the ignition switch or imobiliser,therefore anyone in the know can open the boot when parked with the roof off, was this a feature of early cars,or has this been mucked about with? Also the centre console fibre optics behind the perspex switch plate come on with the ignition, this would have been more sensible to come on with the dash lights as you can''t see them in daylight anyway and would have justified having a panel switch at all a bit more, that bulb is a swine to get at as the console has to come out and being on all the time is daft, again is this normal? Any confirmation appreciated before I start taking the dash to pieces. Ta very much!

The boot release without the ignition on was standard on early cars. To change this rewire the switch feed into the accessories (or engine running) position of the igntion switch. The accessories feed is nornally used for the radio (but not necessarily on early Griffiths). I assume from your post that you bulb has blown, first question is: 1) do you know what the switches do? 2) second question is; if the answer to (1) is yes, then why do you need the illumination (those little black swithes have neve been marked nevermind illuminated). I have changed the bulb a while ago now and next time I need to do anything in the console area I will rewire the boot release and put the fibre optics on the panel switch I think for longevity of the bulb. I was not refering to the switch dots but the little backlit icons in the perspex, looks good when lit up at night.

Clive, have you any changes in mind for those poxy square air vents and some way of making the warning lamp panel display look a bit more high quality, mine has old glue round the edges
