At the end of the day, I'll make my own mind up but wondered what PH'ers thoughts were on colours! Have got a couple of nice options for my next purchase - hope to close this week. 1 in Guards Red and 1 in Lapis blue.

The red one, I think I have dismissed as being too ostentatious but it does look real nice on the clean car in the sun in the flesh!

Which leaves me with Lapis Blue which I am leaning towards, again looked great in the flesh in the sunshine this week and I was sold BUT then I saw another one... Wasn't dirty just wasn't polished and it just looked a bit dull!!!

SO, ANY THOUGHTS GUYS? Also - post some pics. up - let's see your lapis wheels - push me over the edge!!!

Lapis is right up there with black to keep clean, (IMO it's actually worse) Looks superb on a bright day like today, but in dull weather it looks, well just dull really...............
Shows every single scratch and any dust as well.
If you don't mind looking after a high maintainance colour you'll be fine, but if you expect it to look good by giving it a wash with a tired old sponge and a bucket of water once every two or three weeks and polish every six months you'll be disappointed.

ive owned a guards red, lapis blue and basalt black 996.

the lapis blue was probably the most difficult to keep clean, with bugs reappearing after washing that were invisible during washing and streak marks on the bodywork. Plus it gets dustier and shows the scratches more than any other car I owned.

the red one was 300% easier to keep looking immmaculate and looked stunning.

I thought it was a bit garish initially but everybody complimented it and it sold very quickly. As long as the car has decent wheels and a black interior (not savanna) then red is good.

You don't actually say what car you're considering? I'm presuming it's a Porsche

If it's a modern one, I have to say there just aren't enough red ones, everyone seems to choose sombre metallics IMHO red Boxsters, Caymans and 997's look fantastic, yet a red 993 or 996 doesn't seem to be able to swing it (unless it's got an aero pack of some sort)

Gents - thanks loads for response. Hmmm... maybe leaning towards red on your advice - why am I so easy to lead!?

Car is a 996 C2 Coupe manual.

Whilst I like the idea of spending time carefully cleaning, polishing and giving lots of TLC to the car, reality is that I am a bit of a lazy bugger and won't!!!!

Hmmm...

So hard. But a damn nice problem to have!!

Lapis Blue is a wonderful colour however you do have to look after it, choose the right wax that doesn't mask the metal flake. It's a colour that's fantastic in the wet, the deep blue is amazing, in the bright sunshine nothing comes close! BMW M3 Carbon Black is the worst colour for picking up scratches and Lapis is nothing like that, just make sure you don't introduce scratches whilst washing!

easier than lapis, but bright colours such as yellow, red or boring old silver seem to be the easiest to keep clean properly and keep immaculate without polishing every time you wash...

When I was deciding on a new car I thought exactly the same as you.

However, after considering my car colour choices over the past few years (grey, silver, black, silver, silver etc), I thought bollox, red looks great.

I have had my red 997S for 8 months now and still love it.

There is a point you reach where you don't really care what other people think of your choice.

Loads of people already think that a 911 is an ostentatious choice of car anyway.

A bright red one just gives their small minds something else to get wound up by.

Pick whatever you really fancy.

I had red 1st. Then Lapis (looked crap in 3 months despite being very careful). Artic silver and now Basalt Black. Red is the lowest maintenance followed by silver and Black. I would never buy Lapis again.

Robbie. Very very nice.

Went and had a good look at the red one. Love it. Am now super keen to get in red. Just started thinking that Porsche is all about buying from the heart, it's about having that classic colour that Porsches shoud just be! White, black & red. Furthermore, the Mrs likes the red ones. I know that shouldn't matter but helps me soften the blow of spending £35k!

HOWEVER, the vendor of the red car wants more than a similar mileage '02 911 in Lapis with 1 less owner, warranty & 6 months before service (red one needs a major service immediately). Indeed, the extra takes me well over budget.

ANY1 GOT ANY DECENT PHOTOS OF LAPIS BLUE CARS?

Still - the other colours all look great too!!! LOL. Gonna be about the best deal I can get!

Cleaned mine tonight (again!) was planning some photos tomorrow if it is nice - will post some up assuming the weather in the north of scotland tomorrow complements the car!!!!

Having only owned it a week or so I can't really comment on longevity of the colour but I will say I think it is stunning in direct sunlight (does happen up here honest!). It does seem to need a bit of maintenance but I like cleaning it so that's not a problem!!!!!

I too had a red C4S - sold it easy, as there were soooo many silver ones on the market. It's the classic Porsche combo - Guards red with black leather.....
