As a teenager I used to spend a lot of time at Brands Hatch and I was always fascinated by the exotic machinery on the track and in the car parks. So, when I finally achieved a lifelong ambition at the end of 2005 becoming the proud owner of a '03 C4S I promised myself that one day I would be driving my Porsche to the races. It's been a while since I have seen a Grand Prix having been out the country for the last four years so we purchased advance tickets for Silverstone and have been waiting weeks for the big day to come around.
The Friday before qualifying arrives and I check the tyre pressures on the Porsche, give it a quick look over and we are all set. We get up at 6.30am and the sun is already blazing with the promise of a beautiful day. We collect all our belongings, I open the garage door and........disaster, there is a pool of coolant all over the floor at the front of the car !! I assume at this point I have the ubiquitous pierced radiator and call Porsche Assist. We then jump in the Merc, head off to the races and leave my wife to deal with it. I hope there are some who will read this who can sympathise with my disappointment but all is not lost.
Qualifying day was tremendous and if there is anyone on here who hasn't seen a Porsche Supercup car take Copse corner at the end of the Pits Straight then I can highly recommend it. I may be a little biased but it gives me goose bumps to see those guys power through that corner and the gorgeous rear end of our beloved 911 heading off into the distance. The F1 guys heading into Stowe at the end of Hangar Straight takes some beating but the Porsche image was something really special for me. And, to cap it all we got to see England take out Paraguay on the big screen out the back of the grandstand while Lewis Hamilton led home the GP2 race.
It was around 30 degrees most of the day, there was a tremendous atmosphere about the place with as many football shirts as those from race teams, and I got a great tan. To be honest I couldn't think of many places I would rather have been and we are heading back tomorrow for race day and really looking forward to it.
If only I could be doing it in my preferred mode of transport....I guess perfect was just a little too much to ask for

I feel for you, had mine a day and it was off the road for nearly two weeks. I'd been waiting over 30 years too.

Seing the 911s entering Tamburello at the Italian GP support race last year was mine blowing. Don't think TV does them justice.

Hope your C4S is back with you soon.
