Air Con Unit for GTR

I am now at the stage where I need to source the aircon unit for my GTR build, and the most obvious thing to do is to buy it from the factory, however....
Has anyone used a different source/ arrangement, and if so, how successful was it?
I understand that some do not like the controls or find them awkward, and I hear there were some issues with the factory unit ie freezing. What other issues are there?
What about going for say a merc climate control system from a scrapper, or maybe a porsche unit?
I am just exploring options - don't want to hand over a large fist of very hard-won dosh only to think later that I wished I had taken another route!
Any advice or opinion is welcome...

brdee - my advice is to stick with the facory setup. You have precious little room to play with for both the blower unit and the rad, so an alternative is likely to be tricky to fit.
The controls are easy enough to move, but you will need them where the factory put them to pass SVA.
The icing up problem may have just been me, so I wouldn't worry too much.
Like most things (and believe me, I've tried), the alternative solutions usually prove to be far more problematic for the minor savings that you make. In fact, once you've put them right, it usually costs more!

You can buy all the parts need from a Company in the states called "Vintage Air", they make the identical box we use. But.....
1. You will have to buy the fittings and pipe seperatly, then have them crimped over here (Pertec the hose people will do them)
2. Do you know anything about A/C at all ??? do you understand the differences between a Binary and Trinary Switching system ????

The unit I used is www.aapak.com/acunits.htm PN 00407 - the second on this list. You can order the outlet duct with all 4 hose connections to the rear like the factory, or with the style shown in the pic. If I do another build, I will use the style in the pic as I think the hose paths will be easier. This unit fits with about 1/2" clearance on the top vs. the dash.
The condensor is from www.nfauto.co.uk/acheat.htm . I used a 10" fan from Summit Racing, instead of the 8" normally used. All other parts can be sourced from local A/C shops.
