Rusting wheel nuts
Discussion
lol.. mine have been rusty for as long as I can remember but they now look awful so its time to sort them out. I don't really want to buy a new set if they are going to go the same way but I do have a decent set of tools (including rubber padded wheel sockets) so that shouldn't be a problem.
With regards to my existing set - do I just change them or is there a decent paint available which won't just flake off?

How are yours painted currently? I thought mine were anodized, but I must admit I haven't inspected them carefully.
Good question - pass! I don't think they have been touched since they were new so however porsche supply them. I would be suprised if they were anodised though?

You have a few options.
Option 1 if anyone produces a stainless steel, aluminium (wouldn't advise for a Bolt) or titanium then that would solve the prob.
Option 2 paint yours, but the paint will flake off again.
Option 3 get yours chrome plated, easy and not that expensive, and as long as you use a soft socket should last a long long time.
Option 4 get them galvanised, will give an OE finish, and should last a long time, just use a soft socket.
Option 4 get on to ebay and but some wheel bolt covers.
Option 5 buy a 911, 964, or 993 as our cars have proper alloy nuts that don't corrode

I've done mine a few times on diferent cars. Remove the bolts (2 or 3 at a time, to save removing wheel), then use a wire brush to clean all the crap off. I've used smooth silver hammerite on mine, it dries quickly, and seems to last well. You can get them back on within 30mins or so. I believe the nuts are actually galvanised, so there isn't any rust as such, and they seem to clean up pretty easily.

Steve,
I bought some chrome plated ones from errrr..... (Altzheimer's I'm sorry) I'll have to dig out the invoice. They are 5mm longer than the standard bolts due to the 5mm spacer on the Mk 1.
I'll email the details but I don't think they were cheap.

Cheers Tim - I'll take a look when your email arrives... Im guessing smooth silver Hammerite may be a lot cheaper!
