I've been reading (a lot) about the infamous SNB802 (Lucas) coolant temp sensor, all of which are quite old topics now. Does anyone know where I can get the SNB802 or advise what is the best equivalent part ? I'm under the impression that the Lucas part is no more, is this true ?

Try any of the RV8 specialists, RPI do that sort of stuff for example. Places like OMEX sell them too, but at a mark up.

I just obtained one from a franchised Land Rover dealer (part no. LETC8496 AJ10) at a cost of £10.93 + vat... have no idea whether this was of 'Lucas' manufacture as no visible maker's marks but it is working fine and cleaned up some erratic running issues.

C F Parkinson, my 'Local' motor factor in Boston had Lucas ones on the shelf, so they are definitely still available, about 10 or 12 quid IIRC.

Intermotor part number is 55128 - any local motor factor should be able to order one for you. I got one for just under £5 including vat last year.

MUCH better quality than the lucas part - it is mainly brass, whereas the lucas part is plastic.

The Lucas item I have just fitted is ALL brass with plastic only to isolate the terminals where the plug clips on to it.

The sensor I took out of my Griff had a mainly plastic body, only the thread and temp probe was brass, it had SAGEM moulded into the plastic not Lucas.

That musthave been what i took out of mine then. I was in so tight, the spanner kept slipping and ended up taking all the sides off. Had to use mole grips. By the time it was out, it was barely recognisable!

In the water jacket at the front of the intake manifold.
