Morgan Merchandising

Americans treated to new range of weird stuff

Americans love a bit of old world charm and when it comes to the automotive scene you can't get much more quaint and British than a Morgan.

Morgan's entry to the USA was with the distinctive Aero 8, but it's other products that are getting the Yanks excited now. This week Morgan Motor Company Ltd launched the 'Morgan Consumer Products Licensing Program'.

Drawing upon 97 years of history they plan to market all manner of Morgan branded goodies to an eager market Stateside.

"This is an excellent opportunity," yelled Joel P. Gayner, President of Morgan's USA Consumer Products b. "The response to the Morgan marquee (sic) and its evolving lifestyle imagery has been astounding. We are receiving significant interest and inquiries from key consumer segments including apparel, home furnishings, health and beauty, and house wares."

Yes, you heard right - "House Wares". So, can we expect Morgan bedspreads, Morgan tea towels or perhaps the Morgan low fat Grille?

Smells
Smells
More worrying still is the mention of the other categories of goods they plan including "Home Decor", "Bar Ware" and "Fragrances".

"Eau d'radiator" for Christmas perhaps...?

How about some wood preserver and varnish in a 'chassis-protection boxset'?

Handy if they had a wooden chassis like the early Marcos (or Costin Amigo) but not a lot of use in A Mog which, of course has either an alloy or steel chassis depending upon model.

Cuprinol is useful for the body frame however and used to be an extra, such protection comes as standard now.

minor correction to mrenaut's last post, a morgan chassis is steel, its the body which can be alloy or steel.

ps not all morgan drivers (including this one) have beards!

Morgan is already a fashion brand. Might cause issues.

Although I think the market is different:

MORGAN = women, skinny, lightweight, neurotic high street babes

Morgan Cars = men, larger build, heavyweight beards, relaxed dirty old men

Unless you not consider the Aero 8 with its alloy chassis not to be a proper Morgan the original statement is correct.

If we get into body material we also have to mention composite construction to ensure that +4+ is not overlooked.

PS I do have a 40 year old beard, not a drop of Cuprinol has ever bespoiled it!

Ally chassis and no beard here either!
Not sure I'll be opting for morgan aftershave myself, but anything that makes MMC some cash has to be a good thing.

Off topic kind of but I saw an Aero 8 this am on the A4 in MAidenhead - in TVR chamelon purple reflex flip flop paint. Looked mind boggling! First time I've seen another Aero whilst in mine

"Morgan low fat Grille"? Do we mean "grill" as per BBQ or grille as per the front of the car? Or are we making a subtle play on words?

Thats just about what the French said before Chris Lawrence took the +4 super Sports to Le Mans, they changed their minds after the race though. I don't think they shared your opinion about Jaguars as they had frequently seen what a well driven Jaguar could do.

Its strange how people often class things they don't understand as boring but please don't take it to heart, experience and wisdom generally puts things right.

Must take my afternoon nap now I've just looked at your favorite web site, I now understand your obsession with boredom and I'd love to discuss it but I can no longer stay awake.

Morgan = eccentric. Eccentric is never boring my friend.
Having a blog where you publicly fail to organise a summer holiday for you mates on the other hand is never going to set the world on fire now is it!

Anyway heres a pic of a boring old morgan to liven things up

You seem to be able to buy an awful lot of tat with a Morgan logo on it - just hope they don't devalue the brand - still as long as it keeps the cash rolling in to Malvern.... Having said that having your logo on everything doesn't seem to affect Porsche much (said the man with a porsche kettle ) .....

Hmmmm I thought this was a car website not a public slagging off of people's random websites where they personally talk with their friends via a blog! Get out more!

P.S. Sorry, that photo doesn't do it for me!!

Ah, Morgan prostitution.

In line with their retro theme, they could have a Morgan candlewick bedspread, a Morgan Space Hopper and a few fragrances like Morgan Old Spice, Morgan Brut 33 and Morgan Aramis.

I know it's all a part of modern brand prostitution but I still don't understand why anybody would want this sort of crap just because it's says Morgan on it.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm just going to slap on some Mustang aftershave, put on my Mustang shoes and get back to using my Mustang pen and cheque book cover.
