The de-dion rear end was a Caterham development. The Westfield Seven was a clone of Caterham's original Live Axle design. Both Caterham and Westfield were using Escort Mk 2 axles at that time.

After Westfield were made re-design their car to make it less of a direct Lotus 7/Caterham copy, they went on to develop their own independent rear suspension system.

Caterham did not introduce IRS until very recently.
