Hey all,

Been having a mooch about on Google Video, and have come across several videos to do with VR6's fitted with turbo's.

Having seen a Mk2 that looks like it'd a Lamborghini a run for its money, I'd be interested to see whether anyones done this sort of thing here, how hard it is, and what sort of costs you'd be looking at?

I throw it to the floor...

Oh, and have a look at this to see what I mean: http://video.google.com/videoplay?doc

Stealth did a Corrado VR6 Turbo project car a few years ago.

Edit: It's more common to supercharge the VR6 than to turbocharge it.

I've just watched a twin turbo'd VR6 do a 12 second quarter which was 'interesting'...

Neil, just notice this thread, we have a VR6 turbo'd Mk2 also running 150hp of NOZ going for the fastest mk2 in the UK title. PM me or discuss here if you are after any clues/tips etc. Not sure where you are but our mapping guy is near Gatwick.

Superchargers have long been the mod of choice for VR6's and it's only in the past year or two (IMHO) that turbo's have started to pick up a good following.

Check out the VR6 Owner's Club website's forum (www.vr6oc.com) and you'll find shedloads of info about turbo conversions.

The EIP conversion is highly rated and, having seen a Mk3 with said conversion in the flesh on the rollers at Stealth earlier this year, I can safely say that it rocks. In fact, the car was so powerful that it was bouncing off the rollers and a rather large bloke had to sit in the passenger seat to help keep it down.

However, there's a lot of work involved (more than for fitting a 'charger) and I reckon you'd be doing well to get it done and properly set up for less than £5,000, whereas a 'charger might cost closer to £3,000.

There's also more potential for power gains with a turbo than a 'charger, but the flipside to that is that traction will invariably be a problem when there's 300bhp+ going through the front wheels alone.

When accounting for my existing mod's, the next logical step for me would be a supercharger. However, I couldn't justify the cost, when I could sell the car, buy a Mk4 1.8T which has greater potential and start modding that.

HPA Motorsports www.hpamotorsports.com/index.htm do single turbo and twin turbo conversions for VR6 engines, up to 550hp IIRC & although they are a US company I believe they have a UK distributor.

You know it makes sense..........
