Rant on....

Just received NIP through the post from those fun luvvin camera guys.

This time the camera was set up at the bottom of the hill as you leave High wycombe (roundabout madness) up towards the a40.

I always beleived the stretch of road to be 40 but found to my horror that the first 50 yds have been designated a 30mph for no apparent reason.

So I was well @"*$& off when I got a ticket for doing 37 in a now 30mph area.

If anyone is around this area be very careful they seem to be having a blitz in this area.

Now I have 7 years no claims bonus but these cameras catching me "speeding" obviouly mean that I must be a greater risk than i thought

I am seriously thinking of selling the chimp as a result of this

Time to call the insurance company......

Rant off

Hard luck. I assume it was a Tallivan that caught you? (Safety Camera Van). Do you mean they got you as you were starting up the hill past Wycombe Abbey Girls School? Most people gun it there to ensure they make it up the hill in 3rd gear. Mind you, their argument would be that it's next to a school so fair game.

Keep the car, you've got another 9 points yet. This shouldn't affect your insurance.

No it's not fair game, it's never fair game
The school entrance is off the roundabout not on the main road, and it's dual cariageway etc. 30 mph there? Rediculous. Rich...

Yep it was a tallivan., Nicely hidden behind a wall mind you

Next time i think I will stop and have a chat - it would be interesting to get their perspective on why they choose specific places,if indeed they are linked to safety.

one more on the way to the Govt target for catching speeders

Thanks for the tip. Just moved into that very area, so I'll keep an eye out as I want to keep my currently clean licence!

I think they would have made a greater contribution to safety by trapping people on the downhill side of the DC ... but then people are watching for them there and usually slow down going past the best 'location'.

Get a detector as it may help in many similar circumstances. Early warning of "dangerous" bits of road, how can the authorities ever complain?

Greetings to the Wycombe 'massive'.

I live in Wyc, so we'll have to have a shandy at the Hogshead sometime soon (so we can keep an eye on the cars in the car park ;-)

Anyway, cheers for the warning. I train it these days, but know Marlow Hill extremely well. The reason it is a thirty at the bottom is because of brake failure on the way down... many lorries have ended up in the 'roundabout hell ' gravel trap at the bottom.

It is easy to carry too much speed down there, and there is the hospital entrance on that side. Going up is safer and there are fewer hazards, although still the odd entrance.

Speeding down there when it is deserted is frighteningly easy. I need a conscious effort if traffic is light to keep to 30. I have done considerably more, but am not overly proud of the fact...

Cheers

Is EVERYONE in the Wycombe area? I know PH HQ is in Woburn Green (near enough HW) but it seems that a fair old number of people hail from that area.

Personally I'm proud to be an ex-HW person (proud that I got out that is), only problem is that I ended up in Uxbridge (not exactly social climbing!)

So go on, pick a day for a pub meet (if you can out of your front door past that has probably frozen up in the last 30 minutes - have you looked out of the window?)

Obviously all the crack addicts in Hughenden Park, the whores and smack junkies down Desborough Road, and the general huge ammount of crime in HW means the Police have nowt better to do than catch speeding motorists... I despair!

Still, I live outside HW, so I'm quite happy!

I thought nobody drove up the MArlow hill at 30? Certainly not any of the Plod I've ever seen driving up it...

It's unfortunately true The ammount of crack and heroin coming in to HW is enormous! The resultant rise in crime is down to all the junkies nicking thinks to pay for their gear...

Now, if only the Police could stop harassing speeding motorists, and get the junkies off the streets of HW (Desborough Road and surrounding area, not mentioning any in particular), the whole town would be a much nicer place

I live nearer Uxbridge than HW, but if anyone's up for a shandy at some point, let me know and I'll be there too!

I dunno what's worse. The crime or the student population.

Anyway, this weekend is Virginia Water meet, if anyone is going. I will probably leave from Handy Cross UCI (upper car park, opposite the cinema) at 10.00am if anyone wants to come along.

Otherwise we could meet up weekend after next on a Sunday, perhaps. Have a swift half at the Hogshead or sommat.

Will post on the Events and Meetings forum nearer the time, if this looks likely.

Cheers

Looks like I am getting my new car this weekend, so Guy and I will prob meet at UCI and convoy to Manu's place first, before going on to VW...

As for the White Horse, we don't want to scare off lady PHers by taking them to your regular haunt Guy

OK, where's the Hogshead? - I only know the one in Marlow. Don't go out in central Wycombe evenings, for obvious reasons.

I'm defo up for a shandy one evening.

I keep it in 3rd gear going down Marlow Hill, but the lower section is still steep enough to get carried away so I guess it's a fair spot for the Tallivan. Why are there no extra warning signs though? Things like "SLOW 30MPH, Steep Hill" all the way down, a flashing sign maybe and rumble strips halfway (not at the bottom where you need to brake hard).

JackaL - the problem with moving all the druggies from Desborough Road is that they will just move somewhere else - a bit like trying to close down red light districts. So maybe the Police tactic is to keep an eye on what's going on 'cos they know where it's going on, and catch as many dealers as possible. No point nicking the druggies, they're helpless (I'm not making excuses for them though).

Hogshead is the one opposite the large car park, near Blockbusters.

Go over the Octagon flywover, and the Hogshead is on the other side of the roundabout (the one with Time/Club Eden on), near Beadle and Crome and Blockbusters.

I will probably pick a venue with a better car park, maybe off towards Loudwater anyway, as that will be a bit closer for the Uxbridge/Wooburn Green lot.
