I am with fidgits on this. Retrofitting will be very expensive and the money will be lost at resale, whereas the TomTom is better, can be programmed at your kitchentable before you make your trip, cheaper to update and you just transfer it between vehicles so no money lost. Sat Nav is nice to have as factory fitted but if you don't have it I wouldn't bother retrofitting it.

But why is the Tom Tom's screen so deep? Would be much better if is was flat like many other similar systems.

I have a 997 without the in built sat-nav but Tom-Tom instead and find it far a better tool. I have tried the factory fit one and was not a big fan of it.

The new ones are much slimmer and have a better chipset to boot and more features. I think there may even be an Ipod connection so you can control the ipod through the tomtom screen.

One of the reasons for asking is that i dont really want anything cluttring the dash and sticking to the windscreen (ala any aftermarket system). Surly with the PCM already in the car it shouldn't be that difficult a task, surly just a plug in module. Or am i being a bit naive?

EDIT: Sorry I am bbackhouse, just this is is my work PC and im logged into another account.

yes retro-fitting is always more expensive than getting your order as you want first time round - if they charge £2k for nav module add 50% minimum for retrofit

Hey guys, I managed to pick up this really nifty bit of kit at my local BP garage. It only cost about £5, helps me find just about any location in the UK. And it fits unobtrusively into the glove box. Absolutely amazing. I think it's called Map-Nav.

Get a TomTom One. Faster and better than the Go series in my opinion, and much more shallow in depth.
