Firstly hello to all PHs, I'm new to this forum but not to Porsche, and just to get the laughter out of the way before we start its an '04 996 4S TipS Cabriolet - and to make it even worse it's basalt black ! Stop tittering at the back, I can hear you - but I LOVE it !

Having read every OPC/Warranty thread on here - until the depression set in that is, I thought this could NEVER happen to me.............

My conversation with the service manager was going swimmingly as I offered him a small list of faults that needed looking at. It was only when I mentioned after, that I had a warranty that I was deafened by the clicking of the Derailleaur gears as he back-pedalled at an indecent speed !

Anyway chaps any hints or tips on these two faults which I dont think I've seen on the 700-odd pages in the forum ?

The right hand headlight washer doesn't! The left operates perfectly but the right fails to protrude and washer fluid pours out from under the front end. He tells me that if its a motor or jet it's covered but if its a loose pipe (as I suspect) then it isn't. When asked if it was something I could moderately easily check or re-install for myself there was a slight sucking of breath through his teeth and the insinuation that a complete front-end strip was necessary. Surely not ? Seems odd to me that 1 failed pipe out of a pair is classed as wear and tear, and exactly how often are they used anyway ?!!!

A bit more worrying (and used more often to boot) is the auto climate control. The down button for footwell heating doesnt direct air there and neither does the down arrow illuminate, but to make up for that the recirculate button doesn't recirculate but it does switch the air-con on and off complete with picture of snowflake instead ! Apparently if its the entire ACC unit it's covered but if it's a loose wire within it it isn't (I KNOW I'm missing something here, if the complete electronic unit is faulty its covered but if its one faulty wire within it making it faulty then it isn't?). It was again insinuated that it needed a complete front end , but internal this time, strip out to get to the unit!

But wait, it gets worse - my OPC (West Sussex - whoopsssss) want me to phone OPC Bournemouth who carried out the dreaded 111 and warranty to get them to phone my OPC to tell them they will pay for the investigative work needed !!! (Can you even begin to imagine how much fun that will be ?!)

Not sure if I even trust them enough not to claim its a wire just to claw back some dosh.

As you dear readers will guess I had lost the will to live before I even got round to asking if the dead L.E.D roof orientation light could be replaced alone, or did I need to buy an entire light unit thingy !

Well chaps there you have it, any ideas will be gratefully received, it goes without saying that I didn't exactly feel welcomed into the family bosom and of course will be having all my servicing/tyre/goodie needs handled by my local (very good)independant who welcome me by name and even topped up my oil for free !

Apologies for bringing up (yet again) the dreaded subject, BUT at least it wasn't the other dreaded subject which also is know by it's initials !! (But thank god THAT one is covered - unless no doubt it's the thrid Tuesday after Lent and the letters in my name can be divided by 6 or something!!)

Not much help, but I'd try another OPC. I've heard good things about Bournemouth too.

When I bought mine and had it serviced by an Indie they bought up a few things that were covered by warranty.

I phoned Guildford OPC and told them the list of faults, they said they'd have to do their own investigation, but yes they'd fix them. Sure enough they did.

Maybe phone round, say what they faults are, and that the car has a warranty. See what other OPCs say?

Thanks Magic, at this point these are the only faults, and although niggling are not life-threatening, someone on here is bound to know about the washer and likewise the ACC in order that I can present West Sussex with a fait accompli ! Was however very interested to see that Guildford pretty much took the opposite stance to mine and at least tried to be helpful.

When I had my a/c regassed, they found a leak in the compressor.

I booked it in with Guildford, they phoned me in the morning and said the dye had gone, which compressor was it?

Told them it was the nearside one, and they replaced it. They probably could have said, we need to investiagte it ourselves and you'll have to pay for the regass, dye, etc.

But they didn't

Hiya Hussar .. Welcome to the union of village idiots ... (All in my humble opinion of course )

Good to see that you have a semi-sense of humour bout it all!! .. Keep us gigglin at the back , ya hear???

More seriously , have you tried the simple fix of just pressing down firmly on the washer head .. Mine was leaking (actually scared the shoite out of me to see a pool of fluid under the car) and this cured it!!
By the way , I believe faulty headlight washers part of the 996 'allure' .. I know a couple of guys with similar problems.

How did you know I lived in a village ? You're not my wife and mother are you perchance ? And I know well that inbreeding blesses me with the third eye, but I seem to have been passed by the gene that gives me 9 foot arms in order I can active the control stalk and press the washer head at the same time !

Seriously though thanks for the tip, I always thought the washer head was water activated rather than electro/mechanical and perhaps was just gunked up a bit - I'll try tomorrow before the squire calls round for his tythe !

Here's to even more "allure" !!

Yep, meant too busy retelling my experience to say welcome (although I'm a newbie myself).

Keep up the good work

I'm only a true believer 'cos my daddy/uncle said I had to be or he would sell me to the squire !

The most aggravating thing is I only pushed the control stalk by accident - I've never had a car with washers before, and ergo have never needed or cared about them. But as you well know, once you set off a chain of events....................!!

Oh that is SO 993 - welcome with one hand then snatch it away again !!
(BTW was being groomed by some bloke in a chat room and he said he "had a tippy" too - do you think that might be the same thing ? :confused

I really wish i hadn't said that - I may just have left myself open to some of the worst "manual/tippy" double entendre known this side of the hamlet.

I'm not worthy though.

Well i've been pressing down on the head as you suggested, and I cant really tell if I'm leaking or not

Not bad, not bad.
