Ok - have now downloaded all the patches released today for our favourite operating system. I have 2 accounts on the machine (XP Home): an admin one for installing stuff and a user one for everything else.

I use the "listen again function" the BBC website and often listen to Radio 1 live, when logged in to the PC on the user account.... but not today

The stream says it is playing in IE, the clock ticks up but the volume controls are inoperative. When I listen in realplayer, it works...

If I log in as Admin, funny old thing, it all works!!

Any idea what MS has done today and how I can get round it in a User account?

Cheers

Glen

As a work around, you can do a 'run as' on Internet Explorer - Click start, hold down the shift key and right click on your Windows Update option and select 'Run as' from the drop down menu. Enter admin credentials and the browser will run as an admin ie you will be able to use the sound option.

It's only a quick fix though....I'm sure someone will be along with the proper fix soon

A large part of the latest patchday fixes are new workarounds because MS is about to get dragged through the courts again because some little upstart is claiming they are patented processes/ideas that they are not paying for. The big impact of this is that they've had to change the way IE does certain things. There is supposed to be (from memory) a fix for IE7 that effects IE6 (in terms of patch needed) which is more likely to be he culprit

In theory it shouldn't have made any difference to your listening pleasure but knowing MS it doesn't come as a great surprise that it has...
