Hi all,

Is it possible to get hold of or buy ECU diagnostic software for the Griff and the appropriate cable for a laptop?

Reading some of the recent posts on the Pistonheads site reminded me of a problem I had with my car some years ago before it went in storage. Below is what I posted on a forum at the time...

'Has any one here experienced brief loss of power under acceleration?? I have a 97 P Griff 500 which has proved to be very reliable, recently however it has started to suffer from this problem. It it is totally unpredictable..... I can drive daily for weeks with out a problem and out of the blue it starts playing up. Under gentle acceleration you just get a delay in power delivery but under harsh accl there is a sudden loss of power, the revs drop below 1000 and then is bursts back into life again. This loss and gain of power can repeat again and again for some seconds before it seems to clear and everything is fine again.!?!? I've had a good local mechanic take a look and he thinks it could possibly be a fuel filter blockage, ECU problem or a faulty air flow meter but suggested taking it to TVR to get it confirmed. I just wondered if anyone else has experienced something similar before I see my local dealer??'

I never did get it sorted. Some time has passed now and I wondered again if anyone has had the same problem?? This is where the ECU software would come in handy..

Had a similar problem. It ended up being something really simple... unfortunately I don't remember what

I looked for ECU software, and there is some but unless you're a rover v8 specialist, it's a bit expensive!

I also looked at writing my own logging software, but decided I'd be better off spending the time and money on a modern aftermarket ECU (supplied with good datalogging software) as I wanted to modify the car a bit and be able to easily change the setup.

I saw (on Ebay I think) that someone had made a clone of the Rover fault code reader. It's better than nothing!

Just yesterday I got a copy of Steve Heath's Griffith and Chimaera book which has the fault codes listed so I might see if I can buy/hire a reader in the future.
