Octavia vRS?

I was just wondering if anyone on here as ever driven an octavia vRS???? and what there opinion is on it??

I have been offered one through a business deal with £5k of list price.. making it £11500 with all the extras??? I have been out for a drive, its easy to drive enough power when the turbos upto speed.

I was looking at getting a new family car so i didnt have to get rid of the cerbera. Been out in the mondeo thougt it was ok but i prefer the ST220 £19k used. The octavia does everything i want it to do but the old reputation is putting me off.

Steve, I'd be interested to know who's got that deal going, I looked at a lovely one in black with leather the other night and fealt possibly tempted as an everyday work hack to replace the Passat, at that money I'd be very tempted, in fact I'd have it.

I thought th vRS was front wheel drive too. There is a 4x4 turbo charged version, but it's not 180bhp. As far as how rapid it is, I'm sure something can be done relatively cheaply on that front. AmD?

I have been doing to consultacy work, and part of the deal is that i can have 25% to 35% off a car (Skoda).

Forget the old reputation - the Octavia is a beauty for the money - the boot is huge - I've fitted two baby buggies AND a full set of golf clubs in the back of mine, plus they come with loadsagadgets and even with "only" 180bhp you'll not find it wanting. I've driven my diesel model for the past year and the services are cheap, its reliable and even the 90bhp Turbo diesel gives some oomph unless heavily laden. And at £11500 - GO FOR IT!!!!

I consider this to be the car that solved their image problem.

I am yet to drive the car, but given the choice of this against some of it's natural rivals (seat leon, MG ZS etc...) even at 15k i would have said it was a bargin let alone at the price you are being offered it at. And if you don't want it, buy it at that price and sell it to me i would quite happily drive the new VRS for that price!!

Although i would have ot say that the Green calipers don't do anything for me and neither does the tailpipe, but they are minor quibles.

Get one in Silver or Black.

The skoda Octavia RS is front wheel drive. And although they come with a 180bhp engine they can easily be chipped up to 225bhp (like Audi did with the TT.)

However the interior of the Ocatvia RS looks quite kev-boy with the two-tone seats and i would actually recommend the Cupra or the Cupra R also.

Don't be at all put off by the badge, they are quality cars with the building standards of the Germans.

It is only time until the world wakes up to Skodas and recognise that they are Volkswagens but cheaper and with a different badge.

It's a great car. Really a Bora chassis with a different badge and much nicer looks than either the VW or Seat versions. Suggest you take look at this site www.briskoda.net to see just what a following it has!

But isn't the Octavia RS built on the sam chassis as a Golf which the leon, TT,A3 and the Bora share?

Meant to be a good car by all accounts, however the Octavia is one of the quickest depreciators on the market, so that £5K will get swallowed up pretty quickly.
I am also sorry to admit that I would be swayed by the fact that my mates and work colleagues would slag me to death...

It's funny you mention that, when i was at the Skoda dealer the salesman told me that the Octavia RS had a 65% residual over three years. I told him that not even Mercedes held their value that well!

All he did was say he was right. (goes to show much they know about their own cars)

Great car & what value, test drove unit when released, but the wife`s got a standard diesel ! for every day use, not missed a beat in also 3 years from new

I bought one for my wife about 6 months ago. We love it to bits. It feels like Skoda's horses are a bit bigger than any other of the groups!. Main thoughts after 6K miles are:
Great engine - bags of torque - very quick
Great handling - really chuckable
Too low geared in top - needs 6 speeds
Massive boot
Crap rear legroom
Interior a bit max power but lots of kit
Fuel tank too small

All in all it's a winner. It feels more impreza like than VAG & that can't be bad !

Excellent car, great value for money, I am looking at a TDi Combi (estate) for load-lugging.

I had had my RS for 1.5 years now as a company car (36,000 miles on the clock). Dropped my company tax tax down considering my previous mondeo 2L Ghia had a higher co2 banding.

General comments (Performance related of course):

- Great fun to drive, very unflapable, the most enjoyable part is keeping the throttle pinned on roundabouts in second right upto the red line and watching others trying to keep up. ( Don't try this without the traction control on...!. Continental tyres are amazing.
- Nearest a 2 wheel car will get to matching my fireblade around corners It LOVEs roundabouts !
- Had two occassions of people pulling up beside and asking what was under the engine
-Pulls like stink from 2000 rpm and still at 140 mph + (Got 145mph on clock on many a quiet road)-178lbft torque in there I think..!

Other comments:
-Massive boot
-Shit Radio
-Likes to blow coils. It has one per cylinder and so far no 3 and 4 have gone. Both replaced under warranty... Dealer says occassionally one may go however seamed surprised when my second went! Maybe it has something to do with my driving style
-Small fuel tank. £32 to fill up. Hard driving sees 280 miles, gentle 310. I seam to live in garage forecourts.

Summary
Would recommend buying or at least trying one. Great fun, great value and for around £400 a chip change = 225bhp
