The Broad Chalke School Appeal have asked me to mention a day at the Gurston Hill Climb school. They have been donated the day by BARC and any funds raised will go towards the school appeal fund.

The day consists of
0820-0840 Arrive
Registration, coffee and biscuits
0900 Introduction
Short lecture on the essentials of safety, basic hillclimb driving instruction
Followed by...

Walking the hill with an instructor

Convoy runs

Observed individual runs and debriefs

Lunch

Assessed Runs and Debriefs

Tea, Prize giving

Close 1700 Approx
ALL THIS FOR £150 in aid of the Broad Chalke School appeal

This is ideal for "everyday" cars and is not as mechanically demanding as track days - but still an experience not to be missed!
The day is open to cars with Current MOT certificates (or registration documents if less than 3 years old)

Helmets will be provided if you don't have an MSA approved one

Drivers MUST have a FULL drivers licence

Get full details about the Track at www.gurstondown.org

For entries and event details contact alicebennett2001@yahoo.co.uk (and mention pistonheads)

Looks like a good day. Even the thought of trying to go quickly through hollow scares me silly, so i won't be there unfortunately.

Yes, I am, thanks for the 'heads up'- I've never tried anything like this before, have been a spectator at Gurston Down many times and wondered what it would be like to drive the course. My application is going in the post today.

I really fancy a go at this myself, but it's a touch too far to drive - my car was originally built to hill climb/sprint complete with a tiny 3 gallon tank and 8 - 10 mpg so 100+ both ways equates to about 7 fill ups! Must get a trailor!

I hope you have a great time time. What are you taking?

Fortunately Gurston is only about 15 miles from where I live. I'll be taking my TVR V8S. When I phoned the organiser I was told that among other cars present will be Triumph TR6, Triumph GT6, Caterham, Lotus Exige, Porsche 911, and Renault 21.

Should be a good day, shame you can't make it, but thanks for posting on PH otherwise I'd never have known about it!

Andrew.

Couldn't get the link to work! But thanks for trying anyway.

Sunbeam tigers have always been a car a fancy owning one day! I watched one at Brands the other month tear the doors off all manner of cars it shouldn't have! I've posted another thread for a great car show at Groombridge - It would be a great exhibit there - check it out!

I attended this event as planned, and was the only TVR driver. Other cars included Porsches, Triumph Spitfire, GT6, TR6, Westfields, Mini, MX5, Nissan Skyline, Renault Clio, Peugeot 205, Lotus Exige, MGB.

It was a great opportunity to use my TVR in a 'sporting' way but without being hard on the car, and with cars being started at something like 30 second intervals there's no chance of coming into contact with another car.

There were instructors present who explained the best lines to take, and then assessed your performance - the runs were not timed though, so there was no need to try too hard, but you just can't stop that 'red mist' can you?

I would recommend a day like this to anyone who, like me, has wondered what it would be like to drive their own car on a hillclimb course.

Oh, and it rained on every one of the 10 runs I did which made things interesting! Respect springs to mind - respect for the amount of speed and power you can use in the wet and keep control, and much more importantly respect for those drivers who I've watched racing and sprinting over the years who make it look so easy but must surely be fearless.

Sounds like a great day then! I really fancy having a go too but not sure the Cerb will fit round that hairpin!

I'm sure that you could get the Cerb around ok, after all, they do run some ex F1 cars there, and they're not small.
