Right then.
After a frankly pathetic showing on the noise meter at SCH, something needs to be done and I guess the first step is to get rid of the cats. The car is a ’91 model so no problems there. Last service I had to have some welding done and after 15 years I doubt that the cats are much use anyway. As such I’m pretty enthusiastic about introducing them to the local tip. So, a few questions then….
Has anyone had ‘the chop’ recently? Where did you get the pipes from? Has anyone got a spare set they are prepared to part with for some beer tokens? Did you do the job yourself? Is it a straight bolt on affair or is there more jiggery pokery involved?

Picked the car up this afternoon. Took it in to Tower View as it was sounding like a bag of spanners in a tumble dryer. Assumed my paper-thin manifolds needed attention with a welding torch (better get some more on the shopping list) but as it turns out, the culprit was one of the cats. I'd had my suspicions they were fairly useless. I brought them both home with me although one of them rattles when you shake it and apparently dropped a load of crap all over the garage floor when they took it off.
A wet drive home with the roof on meant that I couldn't exercise my right foot as much as I'd like but a couple of stationary revs revealed a much lower exhaust note from inside the car and the overrun is a lot noisier than before. I'll have to drive it a bit more to test this but the engine seemed happier to rev on the way home too. Pedal response when blipping to match revs on a downchange seemed sharper. Maybe its just my imagination. Hopefully the weather will clear this week and a bit of roof off hoooning will reveal more....
Half of my 'first year of ownership birthday' present is now in place. Need to get cracking on the ther half now
