As an "old member" - how's about looking on the previous thread and then looking at Ted's profile - S4 running costs - magic!

You don't say mileage, my weekly (weekday) costs are very low, now 3rd car weekends a bit more and once a year, well that month is expensive!

Edited to Say:- Bit abrupt last night, sorry, but last few threads were about buying running costs. So expanded reply.

Normal running costs are okay - 25+mpg seem about right - don't record it just fill up. However, the cars are getting old and some bits will/may need to be restored, see wheels, trailling arms, hoods, seats and steering rack. So on 6000 miles a year that will be one service a year, which should be okay, but at that service/MOT you may have to "restore" one or two items. That will add to the bill, so check before you buy. See the buying guides. (Insert Mandatory plug for Steve Heaths S Series book!)

I stopped using my (S1) everyday 5 years ago as servicing took a week:- investigate, get parts from Blackpool/Dagenham and re assemble. Got a second car, which then gives you more options on insurance. (okay since then a company car and a newer TVR!)

However some guys do use their car every day, eg Ted, shnozz, etc. (and Both cars appears to have a spent the last couple of weeks at David Batty!)

I've had my S3 for 4 years. I would work on about 25mpg as an average, unless you are only blasting at weekends.

Servicing will depend on mileage, where you get it done, condition of the car you buy and what you can do for yourself. As a complete incompetant I have had all of mine done at Harrogate and costs have varied from £241 - £1200 for a service.

The top end service involved 2 new tyres, battery, clutch master cylinder, brakes all round, front springs and a few other assorted bits.

Obviously much cheaper if you can do the basics yourself and you have a good local non-franchised specialist.

Pop along to your local club meet to talk to others.

Whatever you spend though is definitly worth it
