Can I keep a TVR outside?

I'm sure this has been done before so apologies if it has but I've done a search and can't find anything. I'm thinking of getting a new toy and like the idea of a Griff but I don't have a garage, secure parking yes, but not covered. I'm sure we've all heard stories of TVRs leaking but is it true or apocryphal?

Any thoughts?

Needs to be indoors. Preferably upstairs with its own bedroom. Can get a bit huffy if no TV in the room.

We kept our Griff outdoors in West Wales for a year or so. Essential to get the leather roof cover that Leven(?) do. With that in place no problems. Also keeps the sun out (of the car, not out as in sunny weather).

Kept my Chimaera outside - same with current Cerbera. Both my cars have been dry. Just get a non leaky one. With the convertibles you should waterproof the hood from time to time i think.

On my third TVR, two Chimaeras and a Cerbera, nary a leak, all kept outside. All of them do leak from time to time, but keep the hoods and window seals in good condition and there's no reason to keep them locked up. Easier to look out the window and drool too!

I got this cover for my Chimaera. Works a treat, it's breathable and can be put onto a wet car.

At one point I had more tivs than garages.

Just put a waterproof cover over it. Even if it 'sweats' a bit, well the metal bits are all underneath ( and ventilated ) anyway.
Keeps the bird crap off, and prying eyes too.

She will be fine outdoors. Just get a cover for those extra wet and rainy british summers

I kept my Chimaera outside for 3 years and my Cerbera outside for 5 years and had no problems related to keeping it out side.

If anything, there's a disadvantage in garaging a TVR. For example, after running it in the wet.
I'd rather have my (potentially vulnerable) chassis dry off naturally, via natural airflow, than let that accumulated moisture (plus salt in winter!) do it's worst.

Also, I feel there is no need to cover the car so long as you re-proof the hood at least twice a year.
Why risk scuffing that wonderful paintwork when it's windy?

Classic Additions` outdoor Griff cover is excellent, breathes, dries quickly, lightweight.....I heartily recommend even though I know the proprietor through a friend.....a little tight around the mirrors though, fit and remove with care. Just keep the car clean so the cover doesn`t get dirty on the inside - it was almost too big for our washing machine, but washed perfectly.

Keep my chim outside as i have no other option. Yes it did leak before the hood was waterproofed. Use it as much as posible, it should be fine.

My Cerb's been outside for the last three years, various leaks from the bulkhead that need sorting now & then, and I've got a door seal problem, that's driving me mad.

Always makes me smile when I see the adverts "never been used in the wet" , WTF not ? Are they that crap a car ?

Car covers are ok, but only if "the car hasn't been painted in the last 12 months"

You get what you pay for in life, these cars new, were less than half the price of anything else with similar performance, and now and then, you can see where the saving have been made, if you know what I mean

Its a CAR ferchrissake Leaving it outside should pose no problems at all.

I was suprised how much chassis rust had developed in the year the preveous owner had left my Cerb outside.
I wouldnt leave one outside, nor would i buy one that had been kept outside.

Hmmmm.................it was all going well up to the end! Thanks for all the responses. The Jag's just about to go on the market and then when that's sold I'll be out driving a few things and I think a Griff's definitely still in the running!

The only problem I have with keeping my Cerb outside on my drive is the cheaky b*ggers that stop, get out of their cars, and decide to trespass onto my property to take a look all around it!!!

Same happened to me yesterday, pulled up outside my house to find three people on my drive two standing each side of the Tiv and one taking a photo.
I thought it was quite funny actually i even jumped in for one of the shots with my thumbs up.

Bearing in mind that you should be on top of the waxoyling (insert preference here) there really shouldn't be any concerns. We kept ours outside for 4 years and sold it looking pretty much as it did when we bought it, we tried a half cover but it began to mark the paint as the wind moved it so we gave up on that. Clean and wax often and WD 40 everywhere

Mac (our Griff) is outside, and has been for 3 years, used every day with no cover and i'm sure anyone that's seen it will vouch for it's appearance. It don't leak either. Just clean, polish and wax regularly. Waxoyl annually. Its for driving, not to be stuck inside.
I wouldn't buy a low mileage car as you will be the one picking up the problems.
