CHIMAERA ON FIRE
Discussion
I was driving along the M27 near Portsmouth a few days ago.
When I got to the part where it merges into the A27, there was a silver TVR Chimaera badly on fire on the hard shoulder.
Looks like it started in the engine bay, from what I could see.
Hope the driver was OK. Was it anyone on here?

A heartbroken motorist was forced to watch his top-of-the-range sports car go up in flames.
The man, from Gosport, was driving his £35,000 silver TVR Chimaera when a front wheel caught fire.
Flames quickly spread to the engine and by the time fire crews arrived on the scene the entire front end had melted.
Firefighters believe that the fibre-glass bodywork allowed flames to rapidly rip through the front of the vehicle.
The fire broke out on the A27 as the car was approaching Farlington Marshes, just after the junction for the A3(M) at 2.50pm yesterday.
The owner of the sports car was uninjured in the incident but was said to be very upset at the damage cause by the fire.
Crew manager Stu Vince from Cosham fire station said: 'The fibre-glass chassis had melted and I would say the car was a write-off.'
Sorry for the owner.

Front Wheel caught fire??
Why would this be? something collapsing? Surely if everything is well maintained this would not happen, Maybe rust caused an arm to collapse, would be interesting to find out what initially caused the fire as I know if I still had my chimaera I would want to be preventing it happening in the first place not waiting for it to happen and then having a fire extinguisher to put it out!!
Although carrying the fire extinguisher is still a good idea!!
Anyone know anymore on this? Rich

Yeah, the "front wheel on fire" bit sounds highly unlikely ... however given the general level of accuracy in that article, that shouldn't come as much of a surprise. I can imagine that the first place the owner looked through and saw flames might be through the wheel arch if he didn't fnacy popping the bonnet and fanning the flames.
