If someone told me that my Clutch arm was broken, and I needed a 'Clutch kit', what would that actually mean? (apart from loads of money )

The clutch arm is the lever that releases the clutch when you press the pedal down. I have an uprated clutch in my car which caused the centre of the arm where it presses on the release bearing to fail through metal fatigue. Presumably the stiffer spring caused this to happen.

To fix the problem it will mean an engine out job so yes, lots of money. Get the new arm re-inforced (Adrian Venn - Exactly TVR 07956 956042, did this for me, but any decent engineer could strengthen in the appropriate place). Needless to say get the whole clutch replaced whilst the engine is out.

You don't need to take the engine out for a clutch change, just drop the gear box from underneath. A new clutch is about £300 and the arm about £30, but someone will want about £700 to fit it as its not a pleasant job. Its not beyond the home mechanic though.
