Bonnet locking mechanism playing up...

Coming back from my trip to Glasgow I gave her a good wash, checked oil, fluids etc....
After that I wanted to lock the bonnet, however the handele was not moving- it took almost brute force to twist the handele, moving it open and close a couple of times eased the power needed a bit but it still is considerably heavier to use as before. Is there anything I could do (greasing, oiling exchanging the wire???)

Check under the bonnet where the mechanism moves centrally to 'open/close' the arms...may need a spray of WD40 at this point..you will have to remove scuttle panel to get to this easier.

It could need the ball bearing, spring and sleeve assembly resetting. This is quite easy to do but involves lying upside down in the footwell to access the bonnet locking knob. Had to do this twice on mine so far. Also check the rods line up with the grommets properly.

Mark had to do this when our bonnet kept opening.

Thanks a lot,
will have a look in my footwell (once my back is a bit better from the long drive backfrom Glasgow- I am getting old) and try not to play too much with my knob whilst doing that I will keep you informed
