Photoshop help and advice.

If I could call on the collective wisdom.
I took this last Saturday:
I tried to use the rule of thirds ad I quite like the effect of the shadow and the sky blending into the wing, but it doesn't look much like the conditions. The sky was like this one:
I played about a bit with the White balance but did't get much.
I tried cropping the pic, but then the posts show up more.
Any advice appreciated.

Suspect you took the original picture at or near midday which means the contrast in brightness between the sky and the lower half of the car body is too great for film or digital to cope with. If you take a series of photos at different exposures then they can be merged in Photoshop, but its not a technique for beginners ! Suggest next time you try taking a similar photo that you take it at a couple of hours before sunset.
By the way I like the positioning of the old and new cars in the second shot, thought that it looked a little blue though (another side-effect of a middle-of-the-day photograph because the colour of sunlight changes from blue in the middle of the day through to orange at sunset). Used Photoshop's mid-grey selector tool in Levels to pick a sample from the road (had to try 2 or 3 places before it was right) a little cropping and this is the result:

Yes, great pics...
Photoshop isn't the only bit of kit. Also, especially when you're at the foot of the learning curve, Ye Olde Photoshoppe can be a terribly confusing world to live in.
If I was starting over, I'd probably start with Elements.....
....or become a student and get PS at educashional prices???

"the gimp" will do most of what photoshop does, including RAW file support, and it's free.
It's not as slick but you do get to spend the £400 on something else.
