Just had the throttle stick open, 2nd gear 35 mph, going for 3rd, as I was overtaking a micra

Managed to kill the ignition, and pull into the driveway of a local Garden Centre

Popped the bonnet and pulled the throttle linkage - seemd to be a jam at the pedal, under the mat

Pulled 6.5K before I got to the key, but it seems OK

Going to take a good look at it tomorrow , and velcro the by mats down !

I've had the same thing happen a couple of times!

The driver's side mat in my car is the wrong size (too big). I've cut it down to size now but will be looking to get a proper replacement at some point.

Suppose one good thing is that I know my wedge has a rev limiter now!

Happened several times on my 280, the last time snapping the fanbelt too.

Even more exciting in a 4 speed V6, which will do 70 in second.

Happened in my old Lotus Excel. Very lucky the engine stayed together. Took the mats out after that, kept them for best.

I had it happen on a 46 tonne 420 hp Cat 996 face shovel which has fly by wire, never did find the cause, other than it was built in the good old U S of A .

Might be worth putting in some studs into the mat to stop it sliding under the pedals
