Hi All,
My 4.0 Chimaera has now done around 97500 miles, by the time I sell it in maybe 3 months time, it may have close to 100,000 on. The car is a 95/M and is in realy good shape with no known problems and a full history. The question is how much will it be worth? Very few TVRs are sold with this kind of mileage so its difficult to know.

Less than a 50k one for sure, but how much? If you've got loads of receipts and the car is shiney and clean (esp the carpets/trim - they look pretty worn in many older Chimaeras I've peered into recently) then only 2-3k less is my guess.

Problem is convincing a buyer it's a good buy. They will most probably be new to TVRs and will be a little scared by the mileage - hey the same applies for any car, even a BMW/Audi/Merc!

Hmmm... well thats a tricky one.... would it be worth more or less than my FSH immaculate 93 4.0l with 42,000 on the clock..I'd guess yes..?

I'd say IMO(and please dont take offense) £10k.
Cheers,
Matt.

I would go with M@H on this one as close to the £10k mark is probably about right. Mine is probably worth about £12 at a push with 54K on the clock - but a little work on the suspension and brakes worth £2k so thats where it comes in.

The dawn of the £10k Chimaera is with us I am afraid. I would have thought that this is probably a pretty good figure for one sold privately - a dealer on trade in will crucify you (probably around £8k or even £7k)....

Sorry, but there are lots of pretty good nick ones for £12k ish and therefore high mileage will knock it a little.

Cheers,

Paul

Before I bought the Chim I have now, I looked at a '95/M model up in Aberystwyth, it had about 95,000 miles on the clock and was in stunning condition.

The people selling it wanted £10,700 for it, and were willing to drop to £10,400 and it was snapped up in no time. I actually tried to buy it but it was the 1st Chim I had looked at and by the time I'd made my mind up someone else grabbed it!

Ended up with a better one anyway

Edited to say: this was just before Christmas by the way.

This is really interesting. Nearly 100k from the good solid old V8 chugger. I wonder what the AJPs can do. Read one advert for Cerbie which had done 43k and seller had added "recent complete engine rebuild by TVR costing several thousands". Another Cerbie advert read "just had £2000 annual service" Now I wonder which breed is going to become a classic?

Selling it Ocean? Are you going to have another?

Need to fit in another Warwick meet before it goes.

Will probably sell when summer is nearly upon us RudeGirl. But I cant decide whether to buy a newer 4.5 chimaera or something cheaper like a Nissan 200sx and pocket the extra, what do you people think? (as if I didnt know). Have a also toyed with the idea of a Honda S2000 (ducks for cover).

I bought my 96 Chim just before Christmas with 103K miles on the clock, full FTVRSH, in very good nick with everything that could have gone wrong fixed. Some minor problems: lots of stone chips, stitching on back window gone and siren not working.

I paid a lot less than £10k for it but the guy has pregnant wife, new house down muddy road, and a £1000 insurance bill looming the next week. He is not 'handy' and had been ripped off every time something minor went wrong.

He wanted a fast, hassle free sale and I was lucky to be able to afford a dream.
