Took my 5x10" Superlights to be balanced yesterday. Told the man to use stick-on weights, which he did. Unfortunately the weights foul the Cooper S callipers! Fortunately I checked for clearance before driving the van, so I removed the weights and stuck them on the outside rim which dosen't look very good. Should I just do without the weights? ( I did not detect any imbalance through the steering before the balancing, but going by the number of weights the guy used I should have done!) I don't want to use the hammer-on weights. Is there any alternative?

It happened with my 10" compomotives, they just went a bit shiny. Lead is quite a good lubricant and will "get out of the way" for your calliper. If he has used weights each side, it's proper dynamic balancing which is nice. Hopefully they don't bind too much. I only noticed when I took the wheel off!!!!

had exactly the same problem myself with the cooper S calipers and my mamba 5x10's in the end i got them centre balanced and then did a trial and improvement session which involved putting the wheel on and turning it until it hit something, i then filed it down until it was clear, i was still left with quite a bit of balance weights plus it cleared my calipers.

I always just getb the tyre shop to use the sticky weights on the outside. Never had any problem with this.

if you move the weights from the inside of the wheel to the outside you will need less weight, normaly takes a fair bit more weight to balance wheels on the inside than on the outer edge.
