I'm about to take the plung and get a replacement exhaust system for my 996C4. I'm very tempted by the Dansk sports system but haven't heard it in the flesh so I'm a bit reluctant to part with the hard-earned just yet.

Would any of you guys based up in the Cheshire area who have done a replacement spare me a few mins of your time to let me "llisten in"?

Best fruitier sports exhaust, imho, for a 996 is the PSE.
PSE is also a sure bet come resale time whereas a 3rd party system may raise a few eyebrows.
To save a few bob, it's possible to buy PSE without the switchable malarky... besides, most people will leave it on all the time! Sometimes comes up on eBay or classifieds...

I had a Dansk fitted 2 months ago, great! Not too loud, but it really sings at around 4k rpm.
It cost 600 quid plus 100 to fit.
I'm sure the Porsche system is better but it's around a grand and the same to fit even if you don't fit the switch.
I'm in the Midlands, if you're down this way you're welcome to have a listen.

I've had 2 cars with the PSE, including current, and IMHO it's not the best sound. A decent system (Fabspeed sounded good) will sound like a proper sports exhaust, unlike the 'fake' sound of the PSE. The PSE may be better come resale time, but I think this will only apply to newer cars. Anything over 5 yrs old or so, I don't think will matter too much.

My Techart system sounds so good it has an adverse affect on the MPG.

Can't see it being anything other than a help come resale time. When I went to see my car, and the previous owner started it up, it was a real struggle not to get the cheque book out.

I may be imagining it, but did I read somewhere (poss an advert?) that Dansk actually make the Porsche badged item? The Dansk aftermarket one may not be to the same design of course (thinking about it, it wont be because of the bypass valves used on PSE...)

Went for the PSE in the end, partly because of resale value, but if it does add minimal value to car come resale, I can always put the original back on and eBay it...they always seem thin on the ground as 2nd hand items, so should resell well.

Of course if you sell/trade-in to an independent specialist, you won't get a penny more for your fab sounding PSE, so, as you say, put the originals back on and sell the PSE on ebay/PH

Well it looks like I'll be going for the Dansk one. I spoke with a guy at design911 and he recommended the DesignTek one but I've neither heard that one or come across anyone that has it. Anyone on here got one?

Andy

Like pcpaul above I too have recently fitted a dansk exhaust. Aside from a few problems with getting the first two design911 supplied to fit (see: previous thread)once they supplied one that did I'm very happy with it. It's far sportier than the stock exhaust but without being anything like too loud or creating any real resonance. The build quality and chrome are also impressive. I'm also in Manchester so if you fancy listening to mine anytime give me a shout.
