I'm quite surprised how many people let you out in traffic etc and make polite remarks about the car etc. Any relatively fast car is going to attract boy-racers, but I also find mr diesel mondeo likes to have a go on a dual carriageway, so I just try not to rise to it.

I drove a civic type R for 2 years and only ever got one flash - 1st wk in porker and got about 2 flashes and a wave I feel a bit inferior to 911's and don't want to be seen as a wanabe, so tend to not notice them

To be honest I find most drivers very courteous, one thing i do notice is the way cars move out of the way of a fast accelerating 911, but not most other cars.

My 924 used to get a lot of boy racers trying it on, but not the 911 thankfully, although I do get Subaru's and Bmw's try to play from time to time.

Never had any negative's of owning Porsches tbh, but maybe I'm a courteous driver? I imagine if your a bit of a cutter uper you'll get problems.

2nd day of porsche ownership - 1/2 full bag of chips thrown out of a workmans van as I was overtaking it.......

Otherwise mixed experiences, been let out a few times now after intially thinking no-one would let me out. Wife pleasantly surprised she gets let out no probs when driving it - must be a woman in a porker thing!

Mixed is about right.

I'm afraid you *will* experience utter tossers behaving badly around you. Minimise this by giving them nothing to complain about and learning to spot the idiots a long way off so you can be somewhere else.

I've also been complimented on what a fabulous car I have...

The world is full of w*nkers. Luckily its full of lovely people too...

I find it's usually VW owners, mainly Golf VR6 tts, but just lately have experienced a rash of Passat diesel turbo's. Weird how they all seem to be tie n collar office johnny's who wouldn't dare drive their own motors with such abandon...

oh, I forgot, I also get grief from anything of the boxy vauxhall variety.

I don't bother on the straight bits, I tend to wait for anything curvy, work it through and somewhat in front, pull in to the left lane and beckon them past with a friendly wave...

Oh Dear! .. I'm not sure what you drive , sinly , but I've waved to a few boxters and a 944 recently with no hint of recognition ..
My first thoughts were 'Waste of a car in a non-enthusiasts hands....'

Give us all a wave .. and assume Plonkerdom if we don't wave back....

Don't get me wrong ballcock - always going to wave straight back whatever (in my 27. boxr by the way) but maybe I should make the first move and see how friendly these porsche guys... and girls of course are.

Strange that. I'm presently between 911s and tooling around in a newish Golf GTI and I get more abuse / traffic light challenges from boy-racers in the Golf than I ever did in the Carreras or Boxster. When in the Porsche, I found other drivers to be fairly courteous with the occasional smile and raising of thumb. In the Golf, I sometime's feel as if someone's re-arranged the G, T and I on the boot...

Sadly when we had the Boxster I was driving on a local road where the opposite side is always full of parked cars. Anyway as I was on the correct side of the road 2 idiots in a beat up old Escort decided to drive straight at me.

Other than that there were no other negative experiences, although when we had the Tamora the response to it from other members of the public was terrific.

I've had one guy run over the bonnet leaving scratch marks on my parked 911, i've had numerous occassions when my car would appear to be invisible including this afternoon !!! Mostly when i'm alongside at the same speed, no mirrors used etc.

People pull out in front of me to test my brakes and only had one Boxster flash at me on the Fosse Way last week and a 911 C4 wave the week before.

Don't bother with Cayenne's as they feel above it all !

Check the threads re the Porsche hierarchy from a few months back. V funny !

Hi All

Just read this thread with interest

With my 928...I only seem to get problems with BMW drivers.....they dont seem to realise that my 20 year old car is a LOT faster than theirs...

If they really get silly..I just light up the Nitrous...and am goooonnnneee..I usually wave goodbye through the sunroof first

I then slow down a mile or 2 ahead of them and let them pass if they wish....they never look at me when they do or they back off and stay behind me

All the best Brett

Mostly, its fine. I also tend to let more people out than i used to, so maybe its just karma

Did have a total nob the other day though as i pulled out of a road to cross and turn right, only for a parked car to pull out and decide he was going to have my space and not let me in... slightly nervous feeling as i was stranded in the middle of a road with buses coming toward me. Fortunately, the guy who had originally waved me out slowed to let me through

That's very true. You soon begin to recognise the actions of the dick heads from a distance. They come in all variaties; men, women of all ages etc and drive all manner of cars. Spot the signals from a distance and then give them a wide berth or pull over and wave them by.

pp

Edited to add- Remember other road users also become hyper sensitive to your actions. Just seeing your car looming in the rear view mirror (even at a safe distance) can be interpreted as an aggressive act and will result in lines of cars bunching so that you can't get past.

My recent tactic, when faced with this numptiness, has been to drop back and turn up the volume on my ICE and enjoy the music.

I live in Dubai so there's all sorts of exotica mooching about - the driving here is so bad that the only vehicle that would be given any respect what so ever would be a Challenger tank.

This happened to me last week, wondered what they were doing. Thought the guy was pissed, almost driving on the grass. Must have thought I was on a absolute mission.

I think on the road in a car you reap what you sow. The car inspires reaction from other road users and passers by to an extent but I would suggest the driver and the way they position their car / drive it have far more bearing.

I have never had any adverse reaction from other road users whilst driving a Porsche because of the Porsche. There have been times when I`ve caused inconvinience to another road user and that has resulted in negative reaction but that was my fault. 99% of the time I`m lovely and people react accordingly.

The one car in my collection that induces the most "static" response is the Bentley Continental (old one not the new model). People make huge assumptions, especially when you pull up somewhere, but be a good bloke and you actually reap the rewards as they realise the bloke in the car doesn`t fit their mind`s eye.

I get more reaction from BMW drivers always trying to race me. I also find that white van man and lorry drivers like to stop within a fraction of my rear PU. WTF????

I find that if you want to get your foot down or overtake, some drivers dont like it and you can amost guess what they are thinking just because it is a bright red Porsche. I could probably do a lot worse in my MG and they wouldnt even notice.
