Lamborghini Mercielago

New Lambo unveiled. Exciting new car or just a predictable evolution of the marque?

Now don''t get me wrong, I''d love one of these (especially in yellow) but there''s some dodgy styling on this. That front air dam/valence looks a bit odd as do the trowel like side skirts/intakes. Doesn''t look very cohesive below the waistline.

Not really that different to a Diablo is it ? There was a one off Lambo being shown a few years ago as a possible new model that was gorgeous but I can't for the life of me remember what it was called. Anyone remember ?

I think its excellent, in a time where cars are SOOOO conservative, its great that a corporate (audi) will still make ridiculous looking cars. Actually I like the front a lot, not too sure of the rear though... Edited by bosshog on Tuesday 11th September 09:37

It was the Lamborghini Cala and was a damn sight better looking than this Diablo meets Audi styling thing. Stig

It's a little reminiscent of the new Toyota Celica ... which I'm sure will please any aspiring Lambo owners immensely.

Spot on that is definitely a Celica with a body kit on !!! Yea alright I would still have one though, when the lottery win comes in and I can have a fuller stable

Much like every other Lambo, when it first comes out it has nice clean lines, and looks really rather cool. Then over the years they add more and more plasticky bits until it ends up looking like some Jap streetfighter - and so we're back to the Celica similarity ;o) c.f. original Countach and Diablo - beautiful cars, with their later messy incarnations (present Audi Diablo excepted - I think the Adui/Lambo design partnership works well)

Not sure about it - although - believe me it looks so much better in the flesh. It's gonna be a stonka. I remember how disappointed I was after the Diablo was launched - after the Countach. Anyhow - mine's on order (I've already asked for 2WD drive - how cheeky is that!) Smugness on a stick! Anjum

I think it looks fab. IMHO the Diablo isn't done justice in photo's, in the flesh it makes me go weak at the knees, and when I hear one I'm reduced to fits of laughter - not good if you want to try and drive it.... Not too sure about the rear, but that's because I love the Diablo from the rear. Ultimately you're buying awesome performance and a car that says "f**k off" to everyone very loudly indeed (this is a good thing), which you will get. Do you think I can sell my family for enough to get one ?

I really like this car, even better than the Diablo. Btw, that car shown a few years ago is the Italdesign Cala.

Dom Its gonna happen I think...have managed to avoid all the pre-launch events existing owners get.. by not going to them (I sooo hate that sort of thing)...but this looks awesome.....have a keen buyer for the existing, much-modded diablo in Germany, so if that goes okay... p.s agree about te scoops and things...wonder when the first story of 'i was doing 180 and a large pigeon got wedged into the side air intake' will occur?! Night

Ive been told that its still to be 100% confirmed, but expect £160 in the UK... how great would a transformer be to own? I'd need a triple-changer though - car, plane and a bloody big robot to crush carvans and other assorted unwanted pests...like Ann Widdecombe Dom....you have a talented mother obviously Ultima does sound like a good idea - where would you source an engine? I find that the 'existing owners pre-views' are full of self-satisfied tossers who preen to a crowd of oily salesmen telling them how great they are...like that tw*t from the Gumball Rally...YUCK quite honestly. I just get this sudden craving for napalm and have to leave Night

Hi Night, Yup, Mum is talented - she may struggle with an AJP engine tho'! Pace parts (www.paceparts.com) is the only place for cheap brand new chevy stuff - look at the crate engines under performance parts... you'll get a chevy small block for a couple of grand, and a decent one for under four. Good luck with the Murcielago - although apparently you have to have a lisp to say it - Murthielago or sommat. Cheers Domster

I agree, it's too Germanic.
quote:
It's too audi bland and boring, this is supposed to be the worlds biggest show off car, they screwed up front and back lights big time and the car looks overwieght. Side scoops top and bottom are more like it though. Lambo's should have more attitude than this surely! Not that I would say no to a red and yellow flip with a big wing...

think you'll change your mind when you see one....the sheer dimensions (especially width and lack of height) don't come over in pictures...
