At the risk of inviting 'witty' comments I want to try to quieten my car down since it annoyingly failed the Combe noise test this weekend (108db).

I don't want the car to sound like a 'flymo' either! Is there an established route to take?

Any help/advice appreciated.

Blue Flame manufacturer most exhaust systems for TVR for all of the new cars. Their aftermarket systems are meant to be of decent quality and the one on Ebay at £199 is cheap. The JP Sports Exhaust cost around £340 so this gives you a guide.

As for a trying to make it quieter then that depends on what your current system is? If you already have a sports replacement system on then buying the Blue Flame system will probably not reduce the noise level, what you can do is have some track day silencers made up for your current system (or new system) and these should help reduce moise levels.

Does anyone know how the noise levels are recorded for track days? I have a Noise Level Meter but I am not sure how to take the reading, can the reading be taken with the car stationary (if this is ok, then how far do you stand from the exhaust with the meter?), or is it taken with the car moving?

There are 2 readings taken at track days, or at least should be, one is static at 3/4 of engine revs at 45° and 1m from the exhaust (I think it's 1m, but it could be 750mm, I can't remember). The other reading is a drive by.

i race motobikes and one of my bikes gets to 114db on the noise test.so i`ve bought a baffle which reduces the noise to acceptable levels,without loosing much power,maybe you can get them for cars?

Blue Flames usualy come with extra tail silencers but they seem to be missing on the ebay set so I dout they will help.

£199 for a Blue Flame exhaust is a bargain if it's a new one. I spoke to them today to get a quote for a pattern exhaust for the RS500 in stainless steel. £650...!

I think Nick is right, these exhausts seem to be missing their extra tail silencers which also include removable baffles. Check my profile and you'll see what they look like. By the way they sound great without the baffles which is fine for road use but I would have to fit them for track days I think.
