Had a rather large mound of blackbird poo on the bonnet of my black GT3. After washing the car it looks like it's etched into the top clear coat of the paint. Anyone got any ideas for hiding it with polish etc???

Arm yourself with a tube of Meguiars "ScratchX" Halfords £6or7.

Simply follow directions, be patient and you ought to be able to remove the etching permanently...tis good stuff!

Hmm, after suffering the exact same problem on my black bonnet, i tried the Maguiars scratch x but it had no effect. I also seemed to making the problem worse, as i noticed little swirls appearing around it. Is there a certain technique? I used a clean terry towel to apply the scratch x with.
The etching in the paintwork is still very visible...damn birds and their radio-active poo

Maybe a bit strange suggestion, but nonetheless here I go:

Take some newspaper (preferrably "The Sun"...), let it soak
up lots of water, place it gently over the place with the
stain and take it off after about 10-15 mins by sliding
it sideways away from the spot. If necessary, repeat this
and use some polish afterwards to get rid of possible
newspaper ink remains.

Note, that this will only work if the sh*t is not too old,
i.e. 2 to 6 hours.

Cheers,
Frank
( who uses german newspapers for this )

@Johnzo...terry towel pad, slightly damp is fine for application. Apply in straight lines only, up and down, side to side - no "round and round"! Check progress regularly.
It's not a wipe-on, wipe-off product; perservere and you'll be able to completely remove or at least diminish the effect.

have a look at this.

www.meguiarsonline.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=1516

the etching was not too bad on mine as it had only been on 24 hours but was still enough to completely P me off. I just kept applying the Scratch x with a foam applicator eventualy it went away.

Would agree about using something like scratch X with a damp cloth as the first time I used it put scratches on instead of taking them off.

But to stop the problem in the first place get some decent wax on the car. I live by the sea and the car is always being bombarded, all it takes is a blast with the hose or for stubborn ones a wipe with a cloth to get rid of it. Have no problems with etching.

This is very helpful for me also! The black roof on my MINI has the same problem, so I'll see about getting myself a tube of that stuff!

Same problem on my black paintwork.

I didn't do anything special but noticed after a few washes with good shampoo (with wax inbuilt) that the gloss recovered it self and bird imprint vanished. Strange?

Best way to remove without scratching is to leave a soaking cloth on the desposit for at least an hour. Should just come off no bother afterwards.
