Had my XJR four a couple of months (and about 1000 miles)and have just had an amber engine light come on what is this? It has been sluggish on the pick up since i got it and has now gone into some sort of limp mode? The car has warranty but I would like to know what could have caused this before i go to the garage. Any advice appreciated. Also how much is a standard 90K service?

It could be 100+ things....are your getting any fault messages in the message center?

(Gear box fault, Engine reduced performance, ABS fault, ACC fault, Stability control fault,
Etc.)

Is it the oval amber light or the amber check engine light that is on? Or both?

What were you doing or what had just occurred when you first noticed the light?

With the presumed lack of power has the fuel mileage gone down?

Can you move the car closer to your computer?

Just kidding with the last one..

FWIW 12 months ago I had this happen after approx 6 weeks with my XJ8. I took it to my local auto-electrician who had a Jag fault code reader and he said one of the O2 sensors on one bank of cylinders had triggered the "check engine" warning because of an emission reading above threshold. This he was sure was down to me using 95 RON supermarket fuel. Since switching to Optimax ( I have no connection with Shell - see other threads ) this has not reoccured. It cost me £30 to have the sensor reset.

I have narrowed the fault down to either the airflow meter (would explain the stutter at low revs) or the lambda sensors. The car is booked in for Friday so we will see. What ever it is the independant dealer I bought the car from have offered to help out (they are 100 miles away). Worth mentioning their name (Tasker and Lacy (Leeds)) as they have been very helpful and straight with me.
