What was the answer? Brakes "sticking" multiple choice!
Discussion
Hi there....
There were a few topics which covered "sticking" brakes, IE when the pedal is released, the brakes can "stick on" for a short time, then release. Some said BIAS bar , some said SERVOs needed replacement, some that it was the master cly? then the topic went into A Level physics for a while.... Help? Problem just started with my ford brakes, (has servos) so what was the answer after all? Anyone find the cure?
Perhaps the answer should go into FAQ as it seems a few had had the problem?

I originally had Ford brakes with servos and never had a sticking problem. However when I upgraded to AP brakes, leaving the servos connected, the rears used to lock on solid and would only free off by giving the brake pedal a hefty prod. I disconnected the servo vacuum pipe at the manifold and the problem disappeared, with no loss of braking efficiency, although that might not be the case with the Ford brakes!!
My AP racing brakes would quite frequently 'stick' on, say when I'd pull away from a junction or other stoppage which I'd pulled upto gradually, they'd release after a few metres making the car surge. Otherwise worked faultlessly in particular on hard-stops. Spoke to Factory, spoke to AP Racing, both asked this as the first question - have you got servos ? I said yes, they both independently said, "these brakes aren't designed to work with servos". I had the servos removed from the brake plumbing but left in the car cos awkward to remove, and hey presto no more sticky brakes. Sure I have to lift my heel to get the full-on braking effect now, but it's worth it because sticky brakes are rubbish. This also worked for another Sports owner on this forum who had exactly the same symptom.

Hi,
I had exactly the same problem with my Sport (Willans brakes)
My rear kept locking on - I replaced the servo but no different so I took off the vaccum hose at the inlet manifold.
Brakes now are brilliant - ok you have to press a little harder but this is not a problem, particularily when they are warmed up.
Try this and see if it works (be careful as I am not sure how efficient Ford brakes are without servos)

UPDATE : Removed the servo pipe off the carb end and blocked the carb hole to see what happens.
Drove the car - sticking GONE. Brakes, feel much the same, just need a bit more of a push but not that much. Actualy "feel" better so all sorted.
So Sticky brakes = servos! (still dont know why but its fixed anyway!)
