windscreen wiper not returning to position

My wiper has started to not return to its normal position after a few wipes - especially at high speed. Eventually gets to the point its right in the middle of your field of view. With the roof down you can easily push it back down.

I assume the bottom of it where it turns just needs greasing? what's best to use, some silcone/PFTE grease, 3 in 1 oil or some WD40?

Probably cumulative wear in the drive cable/ wheelbox. Mine does it too. The motor parks in the right place, just that the mech has that much slack it leaves the wiper in the wrong place.

Mine does the same and as Ian says I suspect that it is wear in the motor, cable and wheel box. To get at the wheel box you have to remove the dash and heater box so probably not worth doing this just to grease the wheel box. I did enquire about a new wheel box but couldn't find anyone that could supply one. There are similar ones around as per TR7 but they used 2 wipers and so didn't have the same sweep. A bit doom and gloom I know, but just so you know what you are getting into....

Why not check to see if the inside of the pivot that attaches to the drive spline is worn? These do wear, and if it has just replace the wiper arm. The arm from a rear wash/wipe on a Fiesta does the trick. The pline can also wear a bit, but the new wiper arm will usually do the trick.

Tightened the nut under the cover at the base of the wiper and, touch wood, it seems okay now.

Yes - you will find that with a stripped inner to the wiper arm that tightening the nut will help. But only for a while. You will probably have to keep doing this. Check to see if the blade is just not gripping the spline. Another possible temporary fix is silver paper. But best to get a replacement wiper arm. The replacement from a Fiesta rear wash/wipe cost me £2 I think.
